QB Joe Burrow (transfer to LSU, 2019 Heisman Winner, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

All of that that you stated is true, and it is still a better reason to choose LSU over UC.
You gave me 4 players drafted to the NFL in probably the first 4 rounds, when has UC ever had 4 guys drafted in the same draft, let alone that high?
LSU is putrid at developing QBs, and UC is even worse(Gunner Kiel anyone, I think Ben Mauk was their last competent QB and he could barely sniff the CFL). If the choice was those 2 schools, than his decision was an easy one, IMO. Fickell isn't close to making UC a contender in even the AAC for the next few years, why would Burrow waste his time getting bludgeoned against average competition, when he can at least compete for an above average program and get seen on a bigger stage. UC was a nice story, and that was about it.

You may mean Russell Shepherd as well.

And I agree with all you said, especially going from a decrease in stadium size, and getting to the NFL(yes I know though, the NFL will find you wherever, but its much easier at a name brand school)
Dude could imagine going from the best stadium/school/colors/etc... to sina-fucking-nata... no way man.

So glad Joe went big time... because as everyone here knows I believe in Joe.

Besides our buckeyes and annoying everyone here with my pessimistic views on gameday I will be a big LSU fan the next two season.

I hope (but I will scream) that Joe ends up in NYC one day in December the next two seasons.

I really really really think we made a mistake but I cannot wait to see what Haskins and Joe can do.

It's literally like Iron Man vs Captain America for me

Kind of surprised. I can't imagine any QB wanting to transfer TO LSU. It is big time though. If he can make it work there, he'll be a rock-star that's for sure.

Either way, I'll be an LSU fan for the next couple of years.

I look forward to rooting for Mr. Burrow in Purple and Gold this upcoming season. Though I was firmly in the Haskins camp, I wish him nothing but the best and hope he can lead LSU out of their mediocre funk and halt some of the Bama dominance.

I gave you two perennial pro-bowlers, one who flirted with being the best WR period (didn't quite get there, but close), and a stud tailback (that led the NFL in rushing TDs two years later). All of that talent still produced trash through the air. That should tell you something.

Now maybe they'll finally change their approach on offense and stop being a poor man's Iowa despite playing with incredibly stacked rosters. It could happen.

I've never been an advocate for UC, I've merely harped on the seeming blindness of some to the giant downside of picking LSU.

I still wish we could have seen him with a great system, like Chip Kelly. Or if he has to go to a struggling, should be better SEC program, Dan Mullen and UF would be intriguing (though with more competition).

Mettenberger.. that should tell you everything in regards to not utilizing the talent.

They litealy just haven't had any luck with QBs panning out.
When it lasts for decades, it's not the fault of the talent.
A couple dual threats guys that never panned out like Harris (I think that was him). I think Joe is on a different level then anything they've had lately.
Joe could be, because a competent developer brought him along. As for the talent argument, as I said to you last time
From 07 to 14, they had a top-10 QB in every class except one. In the next one they signed two.

Their horrendous QB development finally caught up with them and they struck out on quality QBs in the last 4 classes.
They've had tons of very good QBs and produced sub-Rutgers production, to the point where they were taking in Purdue's castoffs (as did Florida).
Yeah with UC why go there and get your brains beat in by OSU Or larger D1 schools. Also it doesn't look like Luke has that much to work with yet and if you want to win and maybe get to a NY6 bowl you have to go to a bigger school.

Not to mention playing in at least a similar size stadium. I couldn't imagine going from 110k to maybe 30-40k consistently every week. Talk about a bummer.

Plus to get into the NFL .. If he crushes it at LSU he's a lock for the top few rounds.

Really can't wait to see him play.. I still maintain he was out better option but it worked out for both I think
Again, I didn't advocate UC, except to point out that their floor is not necessarily better than LSU's given their trash development at the position.

Maybe some of the schools (like UCLA) did not want him and so those are wildcards that only exist in my mind, but there are a lot of schools with a much lower degree of difficulty with plenty of exposure

Examining the Depth Chart Awaiting Joe Burrow at LSU

Are-You-Watching.jpg

It is safe to say that former Ohio State quarterback Joe Burrow was going to transfer to a place where he felt he was likely to start.

With him choosing LSU on Friday, that gives you a pretty good idea of what he believes the Tigers’ depth chart looks like at quarterback currently.

But is he correct in his assumption?

Probably.

LSU must replace 2-year starter Danny Etling, who was a 7th-round draft pick of the New England Patriots in last month’s NFL Draft. Etling transferred to LSU from Purdue, so the Tigers have gone back to the transfer well once again. And like last time, they are doing so because they don’t feel great about their home-grown options.

Redshirt junior Justin McMillan likely left the spring as the No. 1 quarterback for LSU, even though he was inconsistent throughout spring camp. McMillan has thrown just one pass in his 3-year career, and that came in 2016. In last month’s spring game, he completed 14-of-29 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 48 yards on eight carries.

McMillan came to LSU as a 3-star prospect from Texas, choosing the Tigers over offers from Arkansas State and UNLV

Etling’s backup last year was Myles Brennan, who won the job as a true freshman. He completed 14-of-24 passes for 182 yards last season. He is the only quarterback on the LSU roster who has thrown more than one pass — at least until Joe Burrow arrives.

Brennan was the No. 6 pocket passer in the 2017 class. He signed with LSU out of Mississippi over offers from Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Indiana, Cincinnati, and Kentucky.

LSU actually signed two quarterbacks in the 2017 class in Brennan and Lowell Narcisse, who redshirted last sason. Narcisse threw for 205 yards in the spring game, but 94 yards of that came on a broken 5-yard completion that featured 89 yards of run-after-catch. Out of St. James, Louisiana, Narcisse was the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class and held offers from Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, and Illinois.

Doubtful....but there are other schools out there.
I don't. And he only chose between 2 schools, so that's all we can go off of. As fans, we can name other schools, but our opinions matter none. And between LSU and UC, LSU has UC beat in pretty much every category related to football(talent, facilities, exposure, coaching, etc). And on top of that, if LSU doesn't have the coaches this year, their Admin will back up multiple Brinks trucks to find someone who can, UC in no way shape or form can put up the capital to pay what LSU can to coaches

And yet with all of these advantages, they can’t make a QB look good. Hmmmmmmm.
