Preseason and Regular Season Polls (2015)

A comparison of Ohio State's and Alabama's defenses:

TeamTotal DefenseFBS RankRush DefenseFBS RankPass DefenseFBS RankScore DefenseFBS Rank
Alabama278.1 ypg4th77.1 ypg2nd201.0 ypg40th15.3 ppg7th
Ohio State298.4 ypg9th126.8 ypg24th171.6 ypg8th13.8 ppg2nd
If Ohio State should be afraid of Alabama's defense, then Alabama should be afraid of Ohio State's defense.

As an analytics geek, I love when you post this shit

I don't think anyone who plays or roots for this Ohio State team should be afraid of any team in the country, but if the question is, "Who would you least want to see in the playoffs?", to me the answer is clearly Alabama. They have a roster full of former top prospects who will play in the NFL one day, the only DL in the country that can compare to ours, key players with experience in big games, a future hall of fame head coach, a Heisman caliber RB, and a specific desire to exact revenge on the team who punched them in the face last year. For the time being, Ohio State and Alabama are in a class of their own as college football programs, IMO.

I really hope they take rematches into account when seeding the playoff. A replay of tOSU/Bama and Clemson/ND would seem less enjoyable than a regional game between tOSU and ND. If we can take care of business the next 3 weeks I think we deserve a better matchup in the first round, but on the other hand it isn't really a bad thing to give Meyer a month to prepare for Bama. The main bonus of getting ND would be that Bama and Clemson would get to beat up on each other before we get them.

1. OSU
2. Clemson
3. Gumps
4. OkieState

Barring any upsets (yeah right) that's my guess with a nod toward your rematch thought.

OSU vs Bama II would be about as good as the CFP folks could hope for

How bad do you think the ratings would be if Clemson played Okie State for the Natty?

More importantly, where are these games going to be played?

I know the games are in Miami and Dallas, but where is the 1/4 game and the 2/3 game?
I suspect they'll try and keep Bama/Clemson on the same side if they continue winning and send them to Miami to draw the regional crowds.

Of course they sent #1 undefeated FSU to Pasadena last year, so maybe the committee is indifferent.

FSU wasn't #1, however. At least not as ranked by the committee. Bama was 1, OSU was 4. I think FSU may have been 3, actually. Don't care to look it up.
