Post-Game Post Mortem - Penn State

Yowzah!!! Lot of warnings handed out tonight! This is a very frustrating loss, no doubt. But I'm not giving up on this team. We are going to win out and still get into a very good bowl game. The fact is we played a VERY GOOD PSU team in a hostile, very pumped up road game with 100,000 plus frenzied opposing fans. The bye week played a part in this, as we obviously lost much of the momentum following the Iowa beatdown...and that is unfortunate. I do have concerns with our offense, but I have faith in Coach Tressel to right this ship. We are not scUM fans, everybody remember that! They piss and moan after every loss. Lets not do that guys. Look at the positives. Our D after a shaky start kept us in a very difficult game. I didn't take Penn St as a serious threat, but I am now convinced...they are pretty damn good. That is good news. Penn St being good makes the Big 10 a better conference, and gives us another great rival. Kudos to JT for not yanking Troy depite his troubles. It is RARELY a good idea to yank a QB in a close game. That said, Troy needs to step up and become a more complete QB. He has shown flahes of brilliance, but he MUST improve his game. Antonio Pittman, given the chance is a helluva back, he always seems to be moving forward, and for a 195 pounder is tough as hell. He showed that to me tonight against a very strong PSU defense. We still have a very good corp of recievers, I just wish Teddy would start playing Football. We are too good of a team to not win the rest of these games. I think we have seen our toughest games against the Horns (best team in the country IMO) and at Happy Valley. Lets just look forward. Lets get ready for the Spartans. Lets get ready for the rest of the season. We have nothing to be ashamed of. At least we're not 3-3:biggrin: .

No comments tonight, just a few questions, taken from opinions previously seen on this board:

1) Zwick has looked good against nobody. He did well enough against Texas, but due to lack of execution we needed a mobile QB to give us a boost in that game. Smith is still our QB. I can't even imagine what would have happened if Zwick was in there every time that line broke down (ie Miami INT). Zwick does read better, but when pressured does not do so hot.

2) Pittman slashed them for some good yardage multiple times. Same thing with texas. Neither game did he have enough carries, tho both games he seemed gimpy by halftime. He's not great, but definitely good enough. He's not the reason people are complianing about the offense.

3) I used to, not anymore. Ginn got too much hype for his performance against weak defenses. Holmes was hurt tonight IMO. I still put us right up there, and Ginn is still dangerous, but we are not better than any corps in the country right now.

4) This team has more talen than the 2002 squad. This D is better, by a little. The LBs and DBs are better, the DL is coming on but 2002 is obviously better. Pittman is not the reason we have lost, we can rush well enough. It's the passing game. If you gave us Drew Stanton, we would probably be 5-0.

5) Nope.

I thought before the season that it could be a successful one if we don't get to pasadena. However, these two losses in this fashion are awfully painful.

I am late to this fray- but here is my take on this loss.
We lost on one poor decision by Troy Smith - period.

It is not the beginning of the end of world.

We did give PSU cause for comfort, which cause is ill-placed in my view.

Penn State will find their demise, somewhere out there, on the road.

In all likelihood, they may come into Columbus full of themselves next year. That will be the correct moment to show any frivolous Lion fans the folly of their ways.

One bad pick - that was the real diffference this year.

To be fair, there were a lot of Ohio State fans who were predicting there was no way we wouldn't blow them out tonight, too. Penn State held serve tonight on the basis of one interception, basically. Ohio State will win at home next year, and if Lion fans are full of themselves, well, then payback will be a bitch. I imagine the fact that they haven't won a conference game at Ohio State will not be lost on them, but I could be wrong. If I am, all the more fun to watch the reation, I guess.

It is better than forcing the ball and getting an Int. or getting sacked and having 3rd and 17 instead of 3rd and 10. If you don't get the 1st down you got to punt either way but I rather punt from the 20 than the 13.

Rod

Yes, it is better. Are you gonna tell me that seven yards on a punt, or on all punts was the difference in this game? If TS would have thrown OOB three straight plays, he would be getting more flack than he is now.

I am deeply disappointed. I really believed that this was a national championship year. I had such extremely high hopes for these Buckeyes.

I am embarrassed for the players who talked smack this week. Smack isn't swagger. It's bulletin board material that says, "I don't respect you" and it gives an opposing team just that little bit more incentive to dig a little deeper to change your mind.

I am convinced that we need to seriously examine our offensive output. This offense is not executing. It is not because it lacks talent. It is because it needs better offensive coaching.

I am saddened for A J Hawk and the guys on that superlative defensive unit. Once again, they held a top notch opponent 60% below their scoring average, even with that interception. I am very sorry that they will not have the national championship that they deserve.
I am hopeful. This team can still have a good year if they pull together. They will need their fans and friends to lend support, because they had the same high expectations we all did. Now is not a time to target individuals. Now is a time to pull together as a Buckeye Planet.

No comments tonight, just a few questions, taken from opinions previously seen on this board:

1) Do you still think that Troy Smith is clearly the best QB and the man to lead this team?

2) Do you still think that Antonio Pittman is a great running back?

3) Do you still think that the Buckeyes have the best group of wide receivers in college football?

4) Do you still think that this team has more talent than the 2002 squad (which was ranked the #16 team of all time by Billingsley's)?

5) Do you still think that this is a national championship caliber team?

Well....

1. YES.
2. Great no, but if people were actually saying that they were smokin' something. Good, Yes. Could he use a second back to give the game a change of pace, yes, is that guy Schnit no.
3. As a whole, they are up in the top 5.
4. Talent tie, Leadership no.
5. Well this is one of the them coulda, shoulda, woulda type things, that could we of been yes, if the ball bounces our way a couple of times. Do we still have a chance no.
