Post 23 Season tOSU Coaching Changes

It’s a fair question.

A vocal minority want everyone fired but often have no answer to fill the vacant spots.

So by that logic, as we have seen many times, those who can't stand the idea of firing the coach feel the discussion should be shelved because casual fans don't have a list of possible HC replacements.

It's laughably illogical.

I feel like I’m repeating myself into the void, but hey that’s why Al Gore created the fucking internet.

You need a true ceo in today’s game. Someone that can identify the best talent evaluator to head up recruiting (scouting and vetting players in alignment with programs established tenants), someone who trusts a true offensive innovator that can manage and call plays (if you’re offensive minded, aligned with your philosophy), a trusted defensive mastermind (diagnose tendencies, adjust, maximize personnel) - again, if you’re defensive minded aligned in your overall philosophy, and position coaches that can sell living in Columbus OH Jan-Mar ain’t that fucking bad when you’re trying to play for the Packers and that the development here will get you to the NFL unlike anywhere else, regardless of the signing bonus.

This same person has to have the wherewithall to be humanely empathetic with knowledge that the world evolves and changes with the better, and that not all pegs fit in a round hole….and so long as this sport is associated with The Ohio State University, they should conduct themselves as
Being worthy of being (by fucking far) the highest paid employee in the state of Ohio.

All of this said, the person ABSOLUTELY HAS TO HAVE THE SELF EVALUATION TO SEE THAT IF WHAT ISN’T WORKING NOW DOESN’T GET FIXED NOW, YOU’RE FALLING BEHIND. And as someone that works with subordinates that make at a minimum 7x what the median income is in the state of Ohio, there should always be short leashes. The standard is the standard isn’t just a quote, it’s a way of fucking life.

Ok, finishing off this Baker’s and heading to bed, my wife is so pissed that I’ve been on my phone all night lmao.

I knew the "give me a name" crew would start their schtick soon.

I don't carry a binder full of names of every possible HC candidate in CFB so by some magic twist of logic, then our coach must be good.

I'll give you a name: Lance Leipold. Dude has taken over as head coach at 3 places and turned the program around each time. His latest trick was taking over shitty Kansas, who hadn't won a game in two years. His third season they beat Oklahoma and win 9 games, despite losing his starting QB in week 4. That's a proven head coach.

Day was handed a Lamborghini. While he hasn't totaled it yet he's bouncing off walls and giving it scratches. He had no track record as a head coach prior to being given this job, one with a hell of a lot more advantages and resources than Kansas. Imagine what a proven HC could do?

I was thinking that same name as I was struggling to fall asleep last night.

Hartline
Fickell
Vrabel
Guiton
Barrett
Saban
Smart
I hope that is in jest because you are usually realistic with your posts, but Vrabel. Smart and Saban are a joke to even suggest. They aren't coming. That leaves Hartline who is a WR coach with an inflated title with no head coaching experience and little actual play calling experience., and two former QBs with absolutely no head coaching experience who are position coaches at their respective teams. Barrett is with the Detroit Lions and Guiton just got hired at Wisconsin last week as a WR coach. Isn't that the complaint that everybody has with Day is that he had no head coaching experience? Why do people think that just because someone played here they would be a good head coach?
Like I said, Smart and Saban aren't leaving their current jobs to come here. Vrabel has said numerous times he has no interest in college coaching because he hates recruiting and despises NIL. That leaves Fick as the only real possibility, and let's see what he can accomplish at Wisconsin first.

I don’t see “Give me a name“ as schtick, to me it’s “OK, the problem‘s been identified, who’s the solution?”

In other words, asking for a name of a possible replacement doesn’t seem like an attempt to end the discussion of whether Day should be replaced. It seems like the next logical step in the fucking discussion to me, and I’ll take it.

I believe that Leipold should be considered, He won 6 NCs in 8 years at Wisconsin Whitewater, that compares favorably to what Tressel did before he got to tOSU. And as Jake mentioned, he improved Buffalo and Kansas significantly.

He’s 59, he’s from the Midwest but not from Ohio, but I’ll wager that some bigger P5 program is going to take him away from Kansas in the next year. Gene Smith (retiring at the end of June) will probably let his successor determine Day’s fate. But I would hate to see Leipold end up at USC or tCun next year just because the timing of tOSU’s AD change delayed the Buckeyes from going after Leipold.

That is a convincing background so I wouldn't feel too bad about Leipold joining the Buckeyes, except maybe for having no connection to Ohio. I don't know what brand of football he coaches, but if it's similar to RichRod's, I wouldn't be worried if he goes to scUM. If we want an Ohio-ish guy, we have the MAC all over our very own state to poach from.

Tim Albin I thoroughly enjoyed the pantsing administered to Georgia Southern by their rushing attack in their bowl. Tough! From Oklahoma, but has been at OU since 2005. Has had much success, won an NAIA championship. OU was 10-3 this year including a win over ISU. Second straight 10-win season and won the Arizona bowl last year. 59 years old.

Chuck Martin He dominated while at Grand Valley St, winning several natties and Miami won the MAC this year. It's taken years for him to turn things around at Miami, though, so maybe he would be a shakey hire. 55 years old.

Toledo probably has a great coach who could do well at OSU.

I think what the new AD will do, if Ryan needs to leave next year, is promote Knowles. He's a smart guy, he can coach, he wants to be a HC, and it would be the least risky hire, I think.

Hey, no one asked who the coordinators should be….yet! lol
Speaking of coordinators, I think Knowles has the intelligence and probably connections to put together a stellar coaching staff. The surrounding staff might be more important than the HC. Whenever we look back at great teams over CFB history, we look in wonder at their coaching staff. E.g., Tressel and Dantonio, Urban and Hermann. And we know Knowles would leave play calling to an elite specialist. He would just focus on being a HC.
