You need a true ceo in today’s game. Someone that can identify the best talent evaluator to head up recruiting (scouting and vetting players in alignment with programs established tenants), someone who trusts a true offensive innovator that can manage and call plays (if you’re offensive minded, aligned with your philosophy), a trusted defensive mastermind (diagnose tendencies, adjust, maximize personnel) - again, if you’re defensive minded aligned in your overall philosophy, and position coaches that can sell living in Columbus OH Jan-Mar ain’t that fucking bad when you’re trying to play for the Packers and that the development here will get you to the NFL unlike anywhere else, regardless of the signing bonus.
This same person has to have the wherewithall to be humanely empathetic with knowledge that the world evolves and changes with the better, and that not all pegs fit in a round hole….and so long as this sport is associated with The Ohio State University, they should conduct themselves as
Being worthy of being (by fucking far) the highest paid employee in the state of Ohio.
All of this said, the person ABSOLUTELY HAS TO HAVE THE SELF EVALUATION TO SEE THAT IF WHAT ISN’T WORKING NOW DOESN’T GET FIXED NOW, YOU’RE FALLING BEHIND. And as someone that works with subordinates that make at a minimum 7x what the median income is in the state of Ohio, there should always be short leashes. The standard is the standard isn’t just a quote, it’s a way of fucking life.
