PG P.J. Hill (BK JEKABPILS- Latvia)

I agree with you take on Walter's game I just don't see him playing much PG...
i, too, don't see him playing as much point as noopy and p.j. however, based on what i've seen and read, i like walter at the point. as i stated in my post that was tongue in cheek, i think there will be so much talent that there will be multiple set-ups. matta will push the pace and, therefore, offutt may find plenty of time in matta's 2-guard system taking the ball up the court and starting the offense.
He is more of a slasher, and while I do believe he can play the point, with Hill and Noopy I see him staying at the 2g and creating from there, and I also believe that his shot will improve dramatically...
i see offutt as evenly spread in his offensive abilities--besides outside shooting, that is. i really do hope that offutt creates a lethal outside shot. that is the part of his game that must be improved the most. he is outstanding otherwise.

the other thing, too, about offutt is that while he can be productive on offense, he is a lockdown defender. he is a very quick and strong player. he shut down roe and he shut down fortson in play this summer. that is quite a feat when considering how different those two players are.

Damn I'm good lol. Just hoping we can keep everyone around for year two. We will be awesomely devastating.
Matta brought this kid in because he needed him. He will play because he will be good enough. He won't replace Butler, but if he can round into shape then next year he should be a real gamer. I look for nothing but good things from him.

impressed me

Hill really impressed me yesterday in the open scrimmage. He is quick as advertised. I thought he looked like a competent ball handler and has the ability to create with a drive to the hoop. His defense is looks good enough to hold up in the big ten.

I don't think he will take any minutes away from Butler who I still expect to see at the point almost on an iron-man type scale. However my confidence that Hill can spell him when needed has improved greatly.

I also agree with the comment up-thread that Hill will compete for the starting role next year! Noopy better bring it if he wants to beat him out at pg!

Outside shooting

I think that I have read most of this thread and I have not seen much about PJ's outside shooting. I guess I would like to know who I could compare his outside shooting. I know that he can not be as good as Butler's.

At yesterday's scrimmage I became convinced that Matta had been running these guys ragged this week. They all looked like their legs were heavy. Therefore any evaluation of the outside shot based on yesterday just would not be fair to Hill or anybody else on the team. If he develops that shot he will just tear people to shreds because of the ability to go right by them with his speed if closely guarded. Fun thoughts!

He might be my favorite Buckeye basketball player right now. Its really hard not to like P.J. after you see him play. He just shows so much energy out on the court, he was playing great defense on Butler and was directing the offense pretty well. However, the best thing that I saw out on the court is, despite that fact that he is a first-year Buckeye and a JUCO transfer, he had absolutely no issues barking orders and yelling at players. He just seemed to have an inherent leadership quality, and he was fun to watch, he got along with everyone great. Really looking forward to him contributing for the Bucks this year.

I love the way PJ is stepping it up. His chemistry with Butler is improving on a game by game basis. As soon as Diebler and Lighty get rolling this offense will score in bunches. Keep the turnovers down and increase the ball pressure on defense PJ and we'll definitely have something going.
