PG P.J. Hill (BK JEKABPILS- Latvia)

The one player next year I'm gonna miss. I wish we had him for one more year so he could teach our froshes coming in what it's like to be a Buckeye. I don't think there's another Buckeye on that roster that better illustrates what a real Buckeye is. When he's on the court, no one outworks him... and he does it on both ends of the floor. You've gotta admire his patience, his humility, his hustle, and his tenacity.

You've been a joy to watch play in the Schott, PJ. You'll be sincerely missed next year!

Props to PJ and the Hill family, all decked out in Buckeye gear! :oh:
That is an attractive - and large! - family.

I'll also miss PJ: his enthusiasm and incredible tenacity on defense (even if his off-the-ball D and switching could sometimes be adventuresome). And by all accounts a terrific young man.

I have a feeling he's going to do something in the coming tournies that will make many people echo these remarks. I dont know why but when others are going 3 guard against us and ET gets winded coming up, PJ is going to lock someone down on defense and be a major factor to us getting through to the next round.

Unbreakable bond: Siblings Tayler and P.J. Hill have helped each other through a transitional year at OSU

P.J. Hill pushed his sister Tayler to work harder when she began to struggle during her freshman season.

On Tayler Hill's first day as an Ohio State freshman last summer, her older brother took her to the gym. They didn't go to play H-O-R-S-E.

"I took her through one of the workouts," P.J. Hill said, "and she stopped halfway through. She said, 'My lungs are burning.'

"I said, 'You know what? Go ahead and sit down. I'm going to finish the workout for both of us, and you'll see how much it takes to be a college player.'"

Halfway through her first season with the Ohio State women's basketball team, Tayler needed a refresher.

"She hit a wall," coach Jim Foster said, "and I think he had some pretty sage advice relative to the opportunity she had in front of her, and (told her), 'Maybe you're not working as hard.' That was good. She respects her older brother.

"I've been (coaching) for 32 years," Foster said, "and I don't know if I've ever seen a kid in the gym and working it as hard as he does. He's not going to be a lottery pick. He'd be a good hire because he has a work ethic."

P.J. Hill's work ethic, and his character, have helped sustain him and his sister through a season of transition for both.

He is scheduled to graduate Sunday - in absentia, he hopes, for the team's sake - with a degree in economics. He wants to try to play professionally overseas. But if that doesn't happen, he plans to enroll in graduate school and pursue a degree in astronautical engineering.

P.J. Hill's dream is to be an astronaut.

KETTERING ? Players wore their new white uniforms at a shootaround Monday at Fairmont High School?s Trent Arena. Some are also new to the area, while others have displayed their basketball skill here before.

The 11 players make up the inaugural roster of the Dayton Air Strikers, a member of the eight-team Premier Basketball League that will make its home debut at 7 p.m. today at Trent Arena. Team president Anthony Byrd hopes the league?s fast-paced brand of basketball produces enthusiasm in the area.

?We really push excitement, high energy, that?s what we?re planning with our home games,? said Byrd, whose team has scored 115 and 100 points in starting the 20-game regular season 1-1.

The Air Strikers feature two former area high school players, Quade Milum (Colonel White) and Mark Anderson (Dunbar), as well as former Ohio State guard P.J. Hill and top draft pick Tayloe Taylor of East Tennessee State.
