Your post is exactly why I put in the disclosure "Not even remotely suggesting his success has to do with the matchups". I don't care if AJ is playing against girls, if he can hit open jumpers, he can hit open jumpers.
You seem to have a good handle on how AJ is performing during AAU season, so I am asking if he's matched up against other top pgs and how it went. Brunson is kind of the measuring stick for PGs in this class and he's been distributing well, but has been struggling big time with his shot. I know that KJSS hasn't played MIF yet and was just curious how he's done against other top PGs and how it might affect the mid summer rankings. AJ's numbers have been very good this AAU season, but no one at the national level is talking about it.
I definitely take a more measured approach on recruits (not just AJ or AG, but all recruits). I think most people are on the side of expecting big things out of recruits and when they don't materialize right away, are looking for reasons/excuses (kid doesn't try, coaches can't coach, etc.). The reality is that college is a huge step up from HS and AAU, especially for kids who aren't elite athletes, are undersized for their position or don't have well rounded games.
If you think I don't like AJ because I wondered if a small PG who shot 30% from three in HS ball can lead a college team to a national title, so be it and I'm not really concerned about it. We've won plenty of B1G titles and I'm not complaining, but I'd like to see a national title and I think we will have a talent level that could bring a championship if we get good PG play and have a legit low post scoring threat. IF AJ is a 40% three point shooter like he's averaged so far in AAU, then I'll be more than satisfied with his development in that area of his game.
