PG Amos "AJ" Harris (transfer to New Mexico State)

I don't think stats tells the whole tale on AJ or Giddens for that matter anyway. AJ seriously pushed the tempo while he was in the game and it was visible what he caused the other teams to do and his own team mates picking it up. That doesnt always show in the stat sheet. Same with Giddens ferocity in the paint. He could never stay out of foul trouble but that kind of effort should always be contagious, imo.

I think they could have developed into something really good but they'll have to try it in another uniform now I guess. Best of luck

AJ was an OK backup PG at OSU, not a player who was going to be a standout at OSU. Surprised he is transferring, seemed to me like he was getting a near optimal combination of PT and exposure for his talent, plus he was not far from home. Not sure what the reasoning is for him leaving after one year, but it's somewhat disappointing that he doesn't see fit to stay. Transferring because you didn't start/don't think you'll start after you played a lot as a freshman is weak, and sad for college basketball that this sort of thing is becoming more common.

I agree he was only an "OK backup" as a frosh. Too early to tell IMO whether he could be a standout; Jon Diebler was pitiful as a freshman, but improved greatly every year until he was money as a senior. Player development is very tough to predict. I agree, though, that I wouldn't be predicting greatness for Harris.

Ohio State transfer A.J. Harris favors Texas Tech
Updated: 7:47 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Harris is finishing up this semester at OSU, then will transfer. As of now he favors Texas Tech and Red Raiders coach Tubby Smith, who previously was the coach at Kentucky and Minnesota. On Wednesday, Smith was reportedly considering a jump to Memphis.

“I’m taking everything slow right now,” Harris said. “My main focus right now is Texas Tech and communicating with those guys.”

I hope he's aware that Tubby's tenure at Tech is likely to be short.

Mutual interest between Tubby Smith, Memphis

They play in a garbage conference - what's left of the WAC - that somehow still has an automatic bid. He'll have a good chance to play in March.

I thought he'd end up at Dayton. Best of luck to him.

This one is mind-boggling in that Harris got way more PT than I imagined he would at the beginning of the year. And mostly, I attribute that to poor play by others rather than his good play. On the plus side, IMO, he's fast and he hustles. On the negative side, IMO, he turns the ball over way too much for a point guard, he doesn't have a jumpshot, and he's very small. Maybe he can transfer to a MAC-level school and play a bigger role there.
