PG Amos "AJ" Harris (transfer to New Mexico State)

A.J. Harris, PG, King James: The future Ohio State Buckeye was a major reason King James knocked off Team Texas Elite. In fact, it may have been the best performance I’ve seen from Harris, who scored 18 points, tossed out eight assists and didn’t record a turnover. Harris is quick and tough to stay in front. He’s a good shooter off the catch to three and is also comfortable pull-up for mid-range jump shoots.

Also big for the King James Shooting Stars was Ohio State-bound point guard AJ Harris. What Harris lacks in size he makes up for with long arms, tremendous heart and clever playmaking ability. He is a major competitor and played mistake-free basketball in a 77-73 win over Team Texas to finish with 18 points and eight assists.

Well, you certainly know your basketball. Muggsy Bogues.

I think you might be the only poster on this website who is worried about Harris and his shooting because he is only beginning his senior year in high school and has an entire summer to practice and Yogi runs up and down the court like a chicken with its head cut off.

Yogi isn't really a PG, but somone made the comparison based on size, so I provided the info.

Muggsy was a 1 in a million type of player, but how did Wake Forest do while he was there? They didn't make the NCAA tourney in his soph, junior or senior years. I don't question that Harris can play PG in college and be pretty good at it. I question whether a 5'9" PG who has struggled with consistency with shooting in HS is going to be able to lead a team to an NCAA title if he's not a legit threat from the perimeter. He's had a pretty good start to the AAU season and his stats are solid so far, but as mentioned, are from a pretty small sample (for example, before his last game he was shooting 27% from three and got to 40% by going 3-4 in one game).

If its not clear, I like AJ as a PG and as a leader, but if he can't consistently knock down perimeter shots, then I think thats an issue and shooting at around 30% from three as a junior in HS shows me he's got to make improvements if he's going to be the leader of a national title contender.

If you can average a 3:1 ratio of Apg/Spg:TOpg againts Elite competition, you are probably going to be in good shape, especially when you are only a Junior in high school still. He has the right mentality and is working on the right things to make Ohio State a legitimate contender as long as the other pieces around him continue to develop.

We only fell off because Aaron Craft elevated his game as a pass-first defense-first PG and our shooters did not. AJ is going to be fine if the other guys come to play otherwise he'll have to adapt his game and score more but it looks like he can do that when it's needed.

but our boy @wigmon says that AJ cannot shoot from the outside
playing only 13 minutes in a laugher, harris had only 2 points this morning on 4 shots. kjss plays the family in a few minutes. i hope aj faces eric davis (top '15 sg), but my guess is that latin davis plays point most of the time. anyway...

through 10 eybl games, harris is averaging 14.2 points (45% overall, 83% free throw, 41% three), 2.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists (2.4 turnovers), and 2.1 steals in 24 minutes.

aau stats are hardly official and we're still working with a small sample size, but that is an impressive line.

Someone has issues with reading comprehension. If AJ has found a consistent stroke that improves upon his 30% shooting as junior, then that is nothing but good for AJ and OSU.

I know the NIke league is supposed to be the top, but out of curiosity, what are the best PG's he has gone against so far? Not even remotely suggesting his success has to do with the matchups, but I know for example Brunson (top rated PG coming into the B1G) plays in the EYBL, but I don't think they've gone head to head. I've noticed that quite a few of the PGs in the top 100 haven't had very good AAU seasons and I was curious if AJ went up against any of them. Just on stats alone, he should be moving up in the mid summer rankings.

you sure are searching for any reason to drop harris down a peg or two, aren't you, wigmon?

if you don't see what i'm getting at, go through each of your posts in this thread and count the "buts." i doubt you understand how your writing places you in a negative light.

wigmon, i respect your desire to be objective and unbiased; however, when you end most sentences with criticism and doubt, then all you become is a cynic.
