PG Amos "AJ" Harris (transfer to New Mexico State)

AJ Harris is nice!!! Knows where to go on the court and who to get the ball to...also brings a nice sense of style to the court (love the goggles) now the first recent film I ve seen of VJ King.....man his game is just filthy....He is Wiggins with court sense.

poor #15 from trotwood. aj repeatedly abuses him. i couldn't help but chuckle at 0:32 when aj strips the ball and #15 sprints back but can barely catch up to a dribbling harris.

edit: or how about aj evading the steal attempt from the corner defender at :59? his reaction time is cat quick.

it's often foolish to assume that a freshman can come in and adequately handle the point guard role, but i'm coming around to thinking that aj is going to step right in and provide quality minutes. my premature guess is that russell assumes the starting spot but matta doesn't delay in substituting the two or moving russell over.

the words from aj's coach, teammate, and himself point to a guard who plays with poise:

Dunbar is a great basketball program, and this kid has the toughness, smarts, quicks, handle, and basketball IQ to contribute right away. He is going to be fun to watch run the show for us with the perceived talent we should have around him.

Does he have a jump shot? Almost all the highlights show him driving to the hoop. Just wondering. ...
aj's three-point percentage last season was a lackluster 30%; however, he improved from the previous season. i'm hardly worried, though. his form is quite good. the foundation is there to become a 35%+ shooter from distance. moreover, he'll have plenty of weapons around him, so his role as a distributor/creator will be far more important than shooter.

i think he shot just under 70% from the line. again, the form is there to become quite a bit better. most below-average shooters can become only marginally better because there just isn't a foundation. that's not the case with harris.

I think the biggest concern over AJ (even more than his size) is his shooting ability. I agree his shot form looks decent enough, but 30% in HS is just not very good. Now, he doesn't look to shoot alot so that may have some impact, but I recall that BFC was a 25+ ppg scorer in HS and shot like 40%+ from three before coming to OSU. Not saying that AJ is or will be BFC, but just providing some perspective on expectations. I think he could be a really good floor general in college, but he does need to develop into a legit 3 point threat if he is going to lead an NC caliber team.
