Thanks for your help even though I follow NBA, NCAA never figured out how the high school competitions work.
After watching all these movies (Coach Carter, Glory road etc) but never really got into it.

it will be interesting with kk though. he def could spend some serious time in the weightroom to play b10 ball. i tend to think hell be in columbus for the start of su07 in june. no inside info just my hunch.

A member of the people who have posted about Kosta believed that he will only play one year, maybe two, of college basketball then declare to play professionally in the NBA. I know that Kosta's mother graduated from Ohio State and hopefully that will persuade him to stay around for a few more years once he gets here.

I also agree with the above poster that Kosta needs to get much stronger if he is going to become a very good Big 10 player in his freshman year.

no. thats the end of the line. national titles in america are crowned by the media (usa today etc)

ohio has 11.4 millioni people... greece has 11.3. so essentially a state title in ohio would be like winning a national hs title in greece.

also fo note kk team canton glen oak is the only public school left in the big schoo division.

I'm not sure if I'm taking this out of context, but I definitely disagree with this comment. First of all, Ohio High School basketball is NOT on the same playing level as the Greek national teams. Second, the amount of fame a national team in Greece would receive is far greater than the starting line-up of an Ohio High School championship team. Saying that populations are equal, therefore the magnitude of the event is equal is not a fair comparison.

that wasnt the point. the point was to explain that the even would be similar to a greek hs team winning a national title.

i dont know much about other provinces/states in other countries. i think must people out of the us have likely dont not heard of ohio. they prob dont realize that its the 7th largest state. on and on. just pointing out the size, which he may or may not know.

Gotcha. I thought you were equating it to the national (or state) recognition he would receive. If he was the starting center for the national champ Greek team, he'd be in Troy Smith or Lebron James territory.

Kosta has a maximum of two more HS games left with his team, as mentioned above (the Ohio state championship is the end of the line). But Kosta is considered one of the best in the country as an individual, and on an American level, he will be allowed to play two "all-star" games with players from around the country. As mentioned earlier in the thread, he has been chosen for the McDonald's All-Star game, which is traditionally the most prestigious. He will undoubtedly play in some other all-star game against other national level players. These games are never indicative of very much, but they are always fun to watch as the players are all pretty much projected to be the best at the collegiate level. There are also practice reports and such, which lead to more analysis of how well players (like Kosta) match up against the best.

This class of "big men" is considered to be one of the best in many years, so hearing how Kosta matches up against Kevin Love, Michael Beasley, and the many others will be fun for us all.

Cincinnati St. Xavier boys basketball coach Scott Martin might ask that of his players a few times this week.

Martin's St. Xavier Bombers become the latest high school team to try to defend GlenOak's 7-foot-2 Kosta Koufos, and extra glasses of milk might be the coach's best option.

"One of my assistants got on YouTube to watch a highlight film of him, and we realized it wasn't a highlight film," Martin said. "It was just one game. He's such a great player. I'm not exactly sure what we'll do yet. Maybe we'll give them milk this week and tell them to grow a little bit to combat him."

Stark County television viewers can watch GlenOak's Division I state high school boys basketball semifinal game on a tape-delayed basis.

The Ohio News Network (ONN) will broadcast the GlenOak-Cincinnati St. Xavier Division I state semifinal Friday, beginning at 8:30 p.m.

ONN will broadcast the second Division I semifinal, Cleveland St. Edward vs. Cincinnati Moeller, following the conclusion of the first game.

All GlenOak fans, according to a release from the Plain Local School District, are asked to wear white shirts to Friday's state semifinal boys basketball game against Cincinnati St. Xavier at Value City Arena.
