PLAIN TWP. While hundreds of fans celebrated around him, Mark Quinn soaked it all in.

The senior point guard on the GlenOak High School boys basketball team signed autographs, shook hands and received pats on the back. Quinn was a district champ, his team was headed to tonight's regional semifinals and he tried to make sense of it all.

Quinn and Koufos hold the whole thing together. They are the floor leaders. And Koufos seems to take his game to a higher level each week.

I went to the game tonight and was really impressed with Kosta but very disappointed with Dallas. He looked slow and no post moves and Kosta beat him down the court all game long and got some alley-oops. I was wondering if anybody could tell me about Dallas's free throw motion.

Kosta looked great tonight. 22 points on 9/19 shooting, 12-15 (guessing) boards, and maybe 8 blocks. He made Dallas look pretty bad. KK definitely stepped it up a few notches playing against another big man.

I was most impressed by his hands on defense. He had quite a few steals and good timing on blocks. Quick hands.

he had 22 or 24 points, dribbled the ball up the court a few times which, was funny watching. Blocked about 7 or 8 shots and loves to rebound in traffic.

Also, He has a great touch when shooting, has some guns, great feet, and passes the ball big time. HE IS YEARS ahead of nowitski and I can't wait to see him at :osu: with or without Oden. I still can't get over what that 7'2 player can do. I guess you just have to see it yourself.

Lebron was by far the best that I've ever seen but, he's an easy 2nd place.

Freshman Sanders is going to be a good one to.

GlenOak wins regional semifinal

Freshman T.J. Sutton sparked GlenOak late in a 48-33 win over Solon on Tuesday in a Division I boys high school basketball regional semifinal. Sutton?s deep 3-pointer from the right wing ignited a decisive 15-0 run in front of a near sellout crowd of more than 5,700 at Rhodes Arena.

The win puts the Eagles (22-3) in their first regional final. They play 7:30 p.m. Saturday against Thursday's Firestone-Glenville winner. This is just GlenOak?s second regional, the first coming in 1996.

Kosta Koufos led GlenOak with 22 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks. He twice finished alley-oop dunks on fastbreaks, made a 3-pointer and hit an assortment of jumpers.

AKRON Everyone knows about Kosta Koufos and the amazing things he does on the basketball court. The 7-foot-2 GlenOak High School senior dazzled another large crowd Wednesday night.

But not every big shot for the Golden Eagles comes from their big man.

Another foe learns hard lesson about Koufos' teammates

SPORTS SPOTLIGHT
TODD PORTER

AKRON Amid all the talk and hype leading up to Wednesday night's regional semifinal, something very important to GlenOak's basketball team got lost. This game between GlenOak and Solon was supposed to be another battle of the big men.

Ohio State-bound seniors Kosta Koufos and Dallas Lauderdale going head to head.

For the record, it wasn't much of a matchup. Koufos owned the floor.

Senior Koufos comes up big

7-foot-2 center scores 22 points in winning battle against fellow OSU recruit

Most of the 5,700 fans who packed a nearly sold-out Rhodes Arena wanted to see the marquee matchup between two of the top big men in the state: GlenOak's 7-foot-2 Kosta Koufos, a center who is strong inside but also can shoot like a guard, against Solon's 6-10 center, Dallas Lauderdale. Both will play for Ohio State next season.
The Golden Eagles (22-3) prevailed 48-33 in a Division I regional semifinal Wednesday night. Koufos led all scorers with 22 points and added 12 rebounds, seven blocked shots, two assists and two steals.

I have seen Kosta live, but I was more impressed with Mullens in person...

Either way it is like splitting hairs b/c they are both really good, but they are both Buckeyes so we get to watch both of them...

I've never seen Mullens but, the stuff I've read about him sounds like a very athletic big man and he's only a soph:groove:so he might be against the law:biggrin:

but, Kosta is an all around player that just blows your mind watching.
for example, glenoak used him to beat solons full court pressure and he was just not playing catch to find the open player. He would dribble through it and do it himself.

he was doing these fade away jumpers and making them look easy.

He plays like a larry bird/nowitski/chris mullins with gifted athletic ability.

I would almost put him with lebron james when it comes to basketball IQ.

Another thing since you've seen him play. Glenoak is really not a talented team but, he is AND MAKES THE TEAM LOOK GREAT.
Kinda like Dallas at Solon. WAIT UNTIL THOSE 2 ARE ON A TALENTED TEAM. :osu: :osu: :osu: IT WILL BE A SHOW TO WATCH:biggrin:

Koufos is as good as it gets in the 2007 class in my opinion. He will be a starter next year at Ohio State and would be starting for this years team in my opinion. I have seen him play 4 times and each time I leave more impressed with how athletic he is for a player his size.

Mullens is good and will get better, but KK has that rare combination of size and athletic ability and add his basketball IQ and desire to get better.....it equals a NBA Lottery pick in the future.....
