Koufos unanimous pick as Player of the Year
Monday, March 12, 2007
By CHRIS BEAVEN

No one needed to debate the boys basketball Player of the Year in the Federal League.

One trip to a GlenOak High School game to watch Kosta Koufos play answered the question rather convincingly.

The 7-foot-2 senior takes over a game like no one else. He scores in a variety of ways from all over the floor. He dominates with ease on defense. He leads by example with his passion for basketball.

Put it all together and Koufos is the unanimous choice of the league's eight coaches for Federal League Player of the Year. GlenOak swept the top individual awards, with Jack Greynolds Jr. receiving Coach of the Year.

Another premier big man blocks the tournament trail of the GlenOak High School boys basketball team this week.

The Golden Eagles - led by their own premier big man, 7-foot-2 Kosta Koufos - meet Solon and 6-9 Dallas Lauderdale in Wednesday's Division I regional semifinals at Akron's Rhodes Arena. Tipoff is at 7.

"It's two really good teams and we really match up well," GlenOak coach Jack Greynolds Jr. said.
