PF/C Kosta Koufos (CSKA Moscow)

Interesting info from the article posted above....

Which got us to thinking: If not for the NBA's new rule last year that prohibits high school seniors from being eligible for the draft, would Koufos be a lottery pick this year?

NBA types and basketball coaches believe so.

"I think he would," GlenOak coach Jack Greynolds Jr. said. "NBA types have said he would be about the eighth pick. But I don't think 18-year-olds should be going pro, even the ones who have had success."

Glenoak plays Harding in the district semifinals on the 8th and then would have the winner of Hoover/Perry(Frease) game if they win...

Glenoak is ranked 9th in the state while Harding is 10th...So it should be a pretty good game...

I would say if Glenoak wins the District then they we have a very good shot at seeing KK down here at State this year...

I don't know the score, but WGH supposedly dominated Glen Oak in a summer league scrimmage. A lot has changed since then, and both teams are playing solid basketball at the right time. We'll see what happens.

Ok thanks, from what I have heard the Glenoak guards have grown up a ton, and KK has been turning in some dominant performances...

GlenOak?s Kosta Koufos is standing tall
Thursday, March 8, 2007
SPORTS SPOTLIGHT
TODD PORTER

PLAIN TWP. When the little kid was knee high, he had a prayer between him and God. He prayed for the darnedest thing, too.

It went something like "God, make me grow tall, because I love basketball. I want to be 7 feet."

People pray for many things. But inches? GlenOak High School senior Kosta Koufos is a kid with a dream, but not a father to share it with. While Koufos is growing into a man, he still hurts.

Koufos would pray every night for God to bless him with height. He prayed so intensely that he would admonish his mother for praying the same - out of fear her prayer would cancel his.

Cont'd...

Koufos and Orban were the Division I players of the year for the boys and girls. Dan Boudler of Louisville was the other county boy honored, receiving player of the year in Division II. On the girls side, Louisville's Mandy Jaeb (Division II) and Lake Center Christian's Ashley Phipps (Division IV) were selected players of the year.

GlenOak's Kosta Koufos is standing tall
what a great and moving article! there is a bunch written about that i didn't know: kosta's father was an osu grad, his father passed away nearly 10 years ago, and his family is short. also interesting:
When it came time to visit the University of Michigan, divine intervention played a part. The transmission in their car blew out in Fremont.
