Battle of S7-footers tronight
Friday, February 9, 2007
Tonight, 7:30 GLENOAK HIGH SCHOOL Boys semifinal No. 1 Perry (10-8, 5-3) at GlenOak (14-3, 7-1)

It's Strike 2 on the much-anticipated battle of 7-footers as Perry's Kenny Frease is sidelined with broken bones around his eye. Frease also missed GlenOak's 61-42 victory Jan. 19 on the Panthers' home floor with a broken bone in his wrist.
The Golden Eagles used balanced scoring in that game as 7-foot-2 Kosta Koufos had 23 points and 15 rebounds and got solid contributions from Mark Quinn, Storm Sanders, C.J. McCollum and D.J. Keehn. Since starting 3-3, GlenOak has won 11 in a row.
Greg Fite had 13 points in the first meeting for Perry, and John Marshall added 9. Trey Thomas leads the Panthers at 13.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, with Fite at 12.6 points and 6.3 rebounds.
The Ohio State-bound Koufos leads the area at 26.9 points and 16.9 rebounds per game.

HIs touch is just amazing for a 7 footer...

Also in that first video you have to love the play where he puts it on the floor to his left spins back to his right and hits about 12 ft jumper...

Who is going to defend that...

Him and Oden would be an absolutly crazy matchup in practice if Oden were to stay(highly unlikely IMO)...

What a boring game, holding the ball for 5.5 straight minutes...

I have always felt that high school could use a shot clock for teams that try and pull this stuff...

I agree. I was going to go to this game, but opted to wait till this week when they play McKinley. I would've wanted my money back!

From others' accounts of the game, Perry was crashing EVERYONE down on KK. Glen Oak had the lead, so they just decided if their big man was going to be triple/quadruple teamed, they'd sit out top and wait until Perry would spread the defense a bit. Perry wouldn't spread, so Glen Oak kept waiting.

if you wont come out and defend it when youre losing, tough. thats what i say.

on kof, i watched his 30 30 film this weekend. very nice. i just dont see him projecting to what matta has going right now. but that being said i saw 4 new sets saturday that i had never seen out of matta. 3 of which involved bringing oden out away from the basket. those kinds of sets is how i see kof being used.

But still the fact that you can run a stall set and still take up the quarter, is it really playing great baskeball if you are just playing keep away and not even trying to score...

As for the Kof no fitting into what is going on right now, Matta will adjust to his stregths, and I think that Kof has the ability to play the outside shooter and occasionally post up role of Harris or play down low and step to 15 foot kinda like Twig does when in the game, but he could make more of an impact when he is in the post...

if you dont like it, come out and force us out of it. who is the problem the team who stands around with the lead, or the chicken little coach who wont come and play some defense? i bet you think running the football with a lead should be illegal too? :wink2:

i think you proved my second point for me, but i will add a shade more. what im saying is kof gives matta the ability to dictate the game. assuming they can defend someone on the other end of the floor and not get flat out smoked, then all these differnt types of players give matta the ability to control the game and matchups in a proactive manner

I just don't understand why you don't have to play, what is the point in standing around, put a 35 second shot clock and just play the game instead of stadning around...I have no problem with it in football because there is a play clock...I have no problem with a team using the shot clock to stall, but 5.5 minutes you might as well just start the quarter with 2.5 minutes if a team is going to play like that...

Exactally...So many options he has and can play fast, slow, half court, full court, picknroll, post up, one on one, motion, you name we can do it and on the defensive end we could man, zone, full court, do it all...

come out and play defense then... dont be a chicken... the the rules are the rules and the five second call is there. the funny thing is you dont even really have to "challenge" to get a team to move the ball.

I agree that is what I would do, if a team pulled that stuff, but it almost takes away from a team playing zone if a team is just going to stay out top and hold the ball or the other team has to come out and guard which spreads the court...
