Looks like it's official. For the life of me I can't understand why anybody who I've ever heard of would even want that job.

Good. That is exactly what needs to be done. So, once again the President, AD and trustees go out of their way to hire somebody with no Paterno/PSU ties. That speaks volumes. I have to imagine that whomever is hired as Prez will have to pass an anti-cult litmus test.
It'll take some time for the Paterno People (or whatever you want to call them) to die off, but the current admins seem very serious about moving on and keeping the stench of Paterno and his cronies as isolated as possible.

Hiring James Franklin plus the reinstated scholarships will put @PennStateFball back at an elite level in college football.
Penn State, of all teams, should have avoided James FranklinThe fact there is "baggage" in the background of Vanderbilt's talented, affable, accomplished coach is enough. All you need to know is that Franklin was Vanderbilt's coach last June 23 when police say four of his players raped an unconscious 21-year-old student in a dorm room.
Each was charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery. They all were subsequently kicked off the team. They later pleaded not guilty. A fifth player pleaded guilty to attempting to cover up the assault.
Franklin has not been tied to the case, at all. But he was the coach when it happened and that should be enough -- especially at Penn State.
Well, look what happened at Vandy under Franklin's watch

Bert for Franklin.. something tells me B1G got the better end of that one
Bart Hubbuch @HubbuchNYP
James Franklin would rather coach a school still on crippling probation from a horrific scandal than interview with the Browns. Ouch.
Dumb, dumb article, but not altogether surprising seeing as how it came from Dodd.Well, look what happened at Vandy under Franklin's watch
