OSU Wrestling (2008 and 2009 NCAA Runners-up)

I don't understand scoring.... but I lifted this from a Hawkeye wrestling forum. This is from their point of view and it seems like they left out Pucillo.

Dennis can add a point with a victory.
M*, Erekson, and Keddy can each add 4.5 points with 3rd place finishes = 13.5
Metcalf will add 4 with a victory.
That's 18.5 points up for grabs (plus any bonus points for MD, TF, or Fall)
Let's say we make things happen and collect 18.5 points - that gives us 15 point lead. Assume Palmer takes 3rd (4.5) and Humph and Jaggers win (8), that still would leave us with 2.5 point lead...and the team title. Oh how the tenor on this board would change with those results..

Dennis apparently is going to get that point by default tomorrow.

So thats the best case scenario for Iowa...What the best case scenario for OSU...

Like I said I don't understand scoring. If I find OSU scoring scenarios i will definitely post/link.
It seems as though a win in the finals is 4 pts. Because of winning 2x in consolation for 3rd nets 4.5. For us I hope Jaggers and Humph can get 8, I don't see Pucillo winning, and Palmer getting 3rd gets us that 12.5 giving us a 15 point lead. I wouldn't be against Metcalf (down to 11) so it rests on whether or not their 3 guys in the 3-6 range get more thirds or more 6's. Of course bonus points can be earned by the type of decision.

Here is another scenario from an Iowa board...

Let's just say Jaggers wins, Hump gets beat, and Pucillo will lose to Herbert, and Palmer gets 3rd that gives OSU another 8.5 or 93 total then the Hawks only need to come up with 12.5 and Metcalf will get 4 of that so M* and Keddy need to get 3rd and we go home National Champs.

I can't exactly lay out the scenarios, but it is razor thin. We always knew it would be tough to beat Iowa, and it still is. We have a 3 point lead, but they have more scoring opportunities. My guess is we need to win 2 of 3 championships (say, Humphrey and Jaggers). Then we need Palmer to finish closer to 3 and further from 6. For Iowa, assuming Metcalf doesn't stumble in the finals, we need one or more of Morningstar, Keddy, and Erecksen to fall closer to 6 than to 3.

To quote YSUBuck, one of our BuckeyePlanet sages, "Wow, just wow!"

Everyone was talking about Metcalf but Herbert from NW is the guy that impressed me the most last night. That guy is just a machine.

I agree that one of those two guys should end up as Most Outstanding Wrestler for the NCAAs. Metcalf won it last year, when Herbert wasn't there.

If tOSU doesn't win two of the three championship matches, it will be very tough to hang onto the team lead. Pucillo beating Herbert would be a significant upset, so the Buckeyes probably need Jaggers to win and for Humprhey to flip the result he had with Gomez at the Big Ten Meet two weeks ago.

Pucillo is very hard to score on. He should keep the match close......let's hope so anyway.

We really need Palmer to place third. Jaggers and Humphrey's can/should get the job done.

Looking forward to seeing our boys excel on the mat today.

GO BUCKS!!

After the first set of matches in the wrestleback (consolation) rounds, Iowa won all 4 of their matches, and Palmer won tOSU's only match.

Iowa now has the overall team lead. Each team has 4 matches left. At this point, almost everything wuold have to go tOSU's way to re-take the lead.

96.5 - Iowa
88.0 - tOSU
78.5 - Iowa St

Palmer's wrestling for third place now. He got a takedown and a near fall in the first period, but used injury time due to a problem with his left knee. He's up 4-1 entering the third period, where he'll start on top.

Ruschell got a reversal to make it 4-3 with about 1:30 left. Ruschell with a near fall to take a 4-5 lead.

Palmer went down 5-4, to finish 4th. Congrats to Lance on being an All-American.
