OSU Wrestling (2008 and 2009 NCAA Runners-up)

These standings reflect all scoring except for the points awarded in the Championship matches, will be on ESPN at 6:30 ET.

I would guess that Humphrey's match would start between 6:40 and 6:45, Jaggers' would start right after that around 6:55, and that Pucillo's match would start around 8:15 p.m.

97.5 - Iowa (1 match tonight)
88.0 - tOSU (3 matches tonight)
80.5 - Iowa St (1 match tonight)
74.5 - Nebraska (2 matches tonight)

Iowa had a very good morning. With Iowa at 97.5 and tOSU at 88 heading into tonight's finals, scenarios are clear, but daunting.

If Metcalf wins, the only way we can catch Iowa is for all 3 of our finalists to win (including a Pucillo upset over Herbert). In addition, we would need 1.5 bonus points to catch them. Of course if Metcalf earns bonus points, we would need that many more.

If Metcalf gets upset, we can win if all 3 of our finalists win, or if 2 win and we get more than 1.5 bonus points.

Bonus points are earned as follows: Fall = 2; Tech Fall = 1.5; Major Decision = 1.

So, there has to be at least one major upset tonight. If there is anyone in the tournament with a chance to upset Metcalf, it would be Darrion Caldwell from NC State. Likewise, if there is anyone in the tournament with a chance to upset Jake Herbert, it would be our own Mike Pucillo.

GO BUCKS!! It ain't over til it's over!!

C'mon Bucks, go out, give it your all and have fun. Show that tOSU pride and we'll be [censored] proud of you regardless of the out come. Great weekend for the guys with some stellar efforts. A Championship would be awesome, but even if not, this is another step in Coach Ryans plan to get the Buckeye Grapplers to the top of the podium, great job guys.

Great defense by Humphrey to stay scoreless in the middle of the first period.

Scoreless after 1. Humphrey lost the toss, Gomez starting down in period 2. Gomez escaped after about 30 seconds. Gomez got in low, picked him up, and got the takedown. 3-0, still in the second period. Humprey with a nice leg-kick escape, 1-3 end of the second.

Humphrey will start the 3rd period down. He needs an escape and a takedown to win.

He got the escape. Down 2-3, with 1:45 left.

Gomez got another takedown with 45 seconds left, 2-5. Reece got a reversal, then tried to turn him, but lost 4-5 as he ran out of time.

Iowa wins the team title, tOSU can't catch them.

Congrats to Reece an being an All-American.

J Jaggers' final is coming up next.

Jaggers with a quick takedown. He's the only guy to ever pin Williams.

Jaggers took him down with a cradle and rolled him for back points, up 6-1 early.

After the first period, it's 6-2 Jaggers. He'll start the second period on top.

He almost cradled him again, then gave up the escape, still up 6-3 going in to the third, starting on the bottom.

Got an escape, now 7-3 with a little over a minute left.

Got another takedown, up 9-3. An escape, final 9-4.

Coingrats to

J JAGGERS, TWO-TIME NCAA CHAMPION!!

I think Iowa leads by 5.5 points. tOSU could actually win if Metcalf loses (he trails 7-2 after the second period), and if Pucillo pins Herbert at 184.

Metcalf with an escape in the third. Caldwell with another takedown, Metcalf is down 9-4 with 1:00 left.

Caldwell taking injury time for a sore back.

Caldwell with a huge upset of Metcalf! 10-6 final.

Iowa's done scoring, tOSU has only Pucillo left. He's the defending champ at 184, but Herbert from NW'ern is the '07 champ and is ranked #1, on the verge of being named outstanding wrestler of this tournament.

But if Pucillo can pin him, tOSU wins the National Championship. If he gets a technical fall (15-point decision, it could be a tie -I'm not sure of any team tie-breaker - , but that's less likely than a pin).

Good luck, Mike - no pressure. :tongue2:

They're now saying that Iowa may be panalized a point because Metcalf threw Caldwell when he was celebrating the victory as time ran out. Iowa has been warned twice before for things in this meet, so the third time would cost the team a point. That would give Pucillo a real chance to win the team title.

The announcers are checking on the penalty point - it's not official yet. EDIT - they checked - it's an official 1-point penalty on Iowa.

Any idea when that match will be? Are they just working their way up through the weight classes?

Right now is the 157 lbs.
