OSU Wrestling (2008 and 2009 NCAA Runners-up)

Any idea when that match will be? Are they just working their way up through the weight classes?

Right now is the 157 lbs.

Yes, 157, 165, 174, then 184. About 45 minutes away.

They did take a team point away from Iowa.

Team Standings, with the Pucillo match remaining for tOSU, nothing for Iowa

96.5 - Iowa
92.0 - tOSU

Pucillo needs an 8 point win, or a pin, to get the bonus point(s) that would give tOSU the Title. A regular win (4 points) would leave tOSU a half-point short.

when you say an 8 point win, are they credited with the amount of points they win by, and that goes to the team totals?

Pucillo wrestled well, but Jake Herbert is a beast. Herbert won, 6-3.

Congrats to Mike on being an All-American once again.

Congrats to the tOSU Wrestling team on back-to-back 2nd place finishes in the NCAAs.

How many points if you win by 8 or more? And how many for a pin?

Thanks for the info.

8+ win = 1 bonus point for the team
15+ win = 1.5 bonus pts for the team
pin - 2 bonus points for the team

Wow! What a Tournament!

We came in having a real shot at winning the whole thing and our kids really didn't let us down one bit. Reece wrestled his ass off, and just fell short. J Jaggers has to go down as one of our Greatest ever. J has what I like to call "Championship Gear." All great athletes and teams have a "High" gear, but the one's that separate themselves have that mindset that when all the chips are on the table that they excel to the fullest. Congrats on being a 2-TIME CHAMP Jeff. On Pucillo, at this stage I like the fact that he bumped to 197 in the dual. Being a fresh-face for Herbert probably helped him tonight. I thought he wrestled great, and hung as tough as possible with a stellar stud who gets on you and stays on you like the flesh-eating disease. Herbert, to me, is the best college wrestler in the United States, and Mike gave him a serious go.

All in all, tonite was a great finish to a crazy year. And to have a chance to "win" like we did was great. Sadly, we didn't win on the final night. But, "Not winning" is alot easier to deal with than "losing." And THIS team simply didn't "win." In no way or shape did they "lose."

Congrats to Coach Ryan and the entire 2009 NCAA Runner-UP Buckeyes.

Peace.

Wow, to think that kid had a NC riding on his shoulders. Great job though. I don't follow wrestling much, but it's nice to hear OSU battling for a NC. I remember just a few years ago people complaining how bad the program was.

Great job Bucks.

Great job Buckeye Grapplers.

Congratulations J Jaggers in becoming an unexpected two time NCAA Champ, like he said on Saturday, "the haters" doubted him, but when it comes to wrestling he is good (understatement ) with that extra gear that Champions have (stole it from another poster, but oh so apt)

Great job to Humphrey and Pucillo you went in against guys who were favored and you let it all hang out and gave it your all and both accorded yourselves well. You both fought to the bitter end and gave yourselves a chance, all that you can ask for is that you gave all that you had, and you guys did to the Nth degree.

Congratulations and great job to Tom Ryan and the whole staff, as you came to Columbus with the will, desire and expectation of winning National Championships for tOSU, and in your first two years you have led your Bucks to their highest ever finishes and had them on the verge of a Championship.

For the outgoing Seniors, hold your head high as you will go down as helping Tom Ryan and the staff in building the foundation of a new national power in NCAA wrestling, on their way to winning multiple Championships.

For the returnees, great job, celebrate your success for a bit. OK now get your butts back in the gym and get better  and improve on your weaknesses and turn them into strengths. For the incoming Frosh and Redshirts, work your butts of to help the Bucks get over the hump.

For the Staff, get out there and keep bringing in Ohio's best (as well as stealing some from Pa, NY, Cal and anywhere else that have wrestlers who want to be the best) and get in the gym and help your returners on the road to future Titles.

Wrestling: OSU national champion Jaggers will replace assistant coach
Wednesday, April 22, 2009 7:46 AM
Ohio State wrestling assistant coach Tommy Rowlands has resigned, and two-time national champion J Jaggers will replace him.

Rowlands, a Bishop Ready graduate, was coach Tom Ryan's assistant for three years. He will pursue a business career and remain executive director of the Ohio Region Wrestling Training Center.

Jaggers, who won his second national title last month, will be a volunteer assistant.

Ohio's top wrestler now headed for Ohio State?
Posted by Eric Frantz on May 06, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Graham senior David Taylor has been granted his release from Iowa State.

According to Taylor: "The recruiting process begins again."

Taylor, a four-time state champion and five-time national champion, was granted his release from Iowa State on Tuesday.

Taylor originally committed to the Cyclones and then-head coach Cael Sanderson last year. But on April 17 Sanderson left Iowa State to accept the head coaching job at Penn State.

Other schools Taylor considered before committing and signing with the Cyclones included Ohio State and Oklahoma State.

"I am open to anywhere," Taylor said. "I am going to take some time to evaluate all of my options. I'm pretty sure I will visit Penn State and Ohio State."

Last week Taylor was named the 2009 winner of the prestigious Dave Schultz High School Excellence National Award. The honor ? bestowed by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame - is the highest a high school wrestler can earn.
