OSU Wrestling (2008 and 2009 NCAA Runners-up)

Congrats to the wrestling program on their best finish ever. With NCAA runner -up finishes in football, soccer and wrestling and the NC in fencing, we should make a very strong run at a top 5 Athletic Director's Cup this year.

Good point and I am going to see if they updated the website yet...

Not updated with swimming and wrestling until March 27...

Great shots, BB. Hopefully that "second" will turn into "first" here real soon!

Peace. "Dubs"

I watched all three Buckeye finals, which were televised on ESPN. Tough break for JD in OT, who took it to Fox the entire match. Did not know it was televised. Great stuff!:osu::oh:
I felt awful for JD...he was always up at my coaches camp (as was Pucillo and Jaggers) and he worked his butt off. The first thing I said after he lost was "What a shame, he controlled that entire match". He had great movement, brawled well, and worked the edge. Imo he lost in the 3rd when he quit forcing Fox out to the edge because Fox was close to getting hit with stalling. But oh well, congrats to both Mikey Pucillo and Jaggers on their championships. Truly outstanding and the future is bright at OSU for our wrestlers. As a side note, OSU is starting to pull all the stops at Graham for recruiting. Former OSU standout Ryan Lang is coaching there now (started this year) and Rowlands is working out there sometimes. Apparently Coach Ryan has been in quite a bit too, so expect some Graham guys to start giving OSU a serious look.

Wow. What a finish. Who woulda thunk that being #5 in the Big 10's would then translate into #2 nationally? The B10 was 1-2-3 in the nation. Pretty neat. Watched two of the finals, Jaggers beat a local central valley boy (Mendes), and what heart he had doing it. Wrestling with a broken (?) bone in his leg, and still winning out. Felt so sorry for Bergman, he was clearly the aggressor (sorry ND Chief, that was the way I saw it), but I guess the Northwestern guy was the better wrestler, as he rebuffed each attack, and waited until he got his favorite move, the single leg take-down, and those were the 'sudden victory' points. Especially as he was bleeding from teh forehead and nose.

Anyway, it appears to the uninitiated that the wrestling team has taken off from the place they were, and are starting to climb the charts. The B10 and Big 12 appear to be where it's at as far as wrestling goes. Never realized how big it was in Ohio, although we had high school wrestling at Whetstone. Here in Cali it happens in junior high also. Anyway, congratulations to a job well done, and

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State's Mike Pucillo celebrates his win over Iowa State's Jake Varner at 184 pounds.

J Jaggers' ankle had swollen to the size of a balloon. Coach Tom Ryan's voice, strained from yelling and cheering, cracked every time he spoke. Despite various ailments, Ohio State's wrestlers and coaches returned to Columbus yesterday on cloud nine after a record performance Saturday at the NCAA championships in St. Louis.
Jaggers and Mike Pucillo won the 141- and 184-pound finals, respectively, heavyweight J.D. Bergman placed second and Ohio State, with four All-Americans, finished second in the team standings, its best finish.
"This definitely puts us back on the map and shows everyone that we're here to stay and do some damage," Pucillo said.
All three championship matches were similar in style, which was by design, Ryan said. Ohio State wrestlers kept them low-scoring and patiently waited for the time to take their shots.
Jaggers' opportunity came with 45 seconds left when he scored a takedown against Chad Mendes of Cal Poly to go ahead 3-1 and then turned him on his back for two near-fall points.

First of all I was screaming at the TV cheering the OSU guys on but actually IMO Fox was the one who really dictated the match. IMO the reason JD pushed Fox around was to keep him in tight so he could not go after that single.

Some people know about band instruments and some know about wrestling. I am a wrestling fanatic.
You really do know your wrestling but you are correct about knowing anything about instruments because that is not a "band instrument" but rather one that is played in an orchestra.:)
