Triggas closer to his goal

It's been the dream of Ohio State freshman wrestler Nikko Triggas to become an Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Triggas took a step closer to fulfilling that dream Friday by dominating the 121-pound weight class in the 2008 ASICS University division of the Greco-Roman National Championships at the University of Akron.
Equally impressive were the talented Mango brothers, Spenser and Ryan, from St. Louis. Spenser Mango, 21, was voted outstanding wrestler in the University division after successfully defending his national title at 132 pounds, and Ryan, 16, won his second Greco-Roman title in the FILA Cadet division at 119 pounds.
Triggas, a native of Moraga, Calif., near San Francisco, is a two-time Junior National champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, a style which does not allow an opponent to grab below the waist. He scored a technical fall and pin against Barkac Jeremiah of Nebraska in the quarterfinals, and benefited from false starts and reversals to beat Miguel Pena of the U.S. Marines - who last weekend won the Northeast Olympic Regional Trials in Brockport, N.Y. - by scores of 6-0 and 2-1.
