unless there is upcoming attrition, can't say i like the idea of nabbing a small forward or shooting guard who's expecting 15+ minutes. a grad transfer joining andre, jallow, ahrens, muhammad, and washington invites internal problems. we should be fine with those five players at the 2 and 3, especially considering liddell and gaffney provide versatility.

edit: also, if you're going after cylla and grayer, then what does that say about roderick? i know those two have college experience and wouldn't affect the 2020 recruiting class, but still.

I agree with both you. Why take a wing who isn't efficient on a low major at this juncture. My assumption is there might be a feeling that they may as well try fill an open spot and want to have as many options as possible for that spot.

I would argue that shooting is more important than size at this point. We are not a good shooting team at this point and we just lost our best shooter. None of the incoming recruits will fix that. We need Ahrens and Washington to step up.

Hypothetical: we land Diallo in the coming weeks..... do we still grab another player? I realize there are two scholarships available, but I know the staff is concerned with maintaining class by class balance. If Diallo comes aboard and we do take another player is it a matter of best player available or a certain player we would be looking for at that point? I ask that in regards to the second player being a freshman or graduate transfer or certain position etc. Diallo brings a few certainties. He is obviously a 5. He is an incoming freshmen just like the three we have and he is clearly a project.

Having said that I would assume any player behind him would most certainly have to be a grad transfer as I don’t see a class of five freshman. So, assuming we get a second player and assuming they are a grad transfer will we be looking for best available at that point or would we be looking for a certain positional player such as a perimeter player, shooter, etc. ?

I happen to like the idea of Brunk but didn’t know if it’s either him or Diallo, not both.

unless there is more attrition, then i hope not -- even if the new player is a grad transfer. between roster imbalance and possible problems in the locker room due to congestion, i think a thirteenth player invites too much risk. i understand the potential benefits from forcing the cream to rise to the top... but then what in the heck was all that talk about when ho1tmann said he doesn't like to sign loaded rosters since having a spot or two open tends to keep everyone happy?

furthermore, say diallo commits to ohio state. say the plan is not to redshirt him. all we really need next year is someone to give 4 to 8 minutes of quality defense and rebounding when spelling kaleb, with small-ball filling the remainder minutes. and i like the prospects of small-ball with liddell, gaffney, young, and andre on the team. the substitute's offense would be extra. if diallo can't even give you that, then perhaps you should have never recruited him in the first place.

Gotcha. So the question is, would you rather have Diallo or Brunk?

definitely brunk. but i think diallo would make me eat my words in 2020 and beyond.

i'll put it this way: if everyone returns for 2020, then i'd take diallo. if we lose one or more key players to professional ball after next season, then i'd take brunk. can't know now what the future holds in a year, so give me brunk. then again, the prospects of a 2020 team that returns everyone is darn tantalizing. hoo boy...
