OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

It's funny you mentioned him pnuts. I am an Athletic Trainer @ a HS in KC and was just having a discussion about this kid with some of the boys on the basketball team @ the school I work for earlier today. Awesome skill set for a 7 footer.

You would have to think that any 6'10"-7' kid with talent would at least take a peak @ OSU w/ the way our anemic post play has been the past two years, especially with the way Matta likes to utilize one primary big guy in his offensive scheme. Amir can't give you more than 20-25 quality minutes in most games so the opportunity to come in right away and contribute is there. A lot of these big programs are stockpiling talent in the post and OSU can't seem to land a legitimate PF-C.

Sorry, I guess I was spoiled w/ Oden, Mullens, Koufos and Sully. Frustration coming out 2 weeks later...lol. He's making improvements but the Bucks are not making any type of run this year or next w/ Amir as the primary post presence down on the block.
I would be pretty sure that Matta is aware of this kid and if he is not he will be made aware of him very shortly. It is early and the only offer he has is from Arizona so it is not like Ohio State is the only school that has not made an offer. You never know, Thad might have his eye on someone better.

Uh, he's the 3rd best kid in this class. And the best post player who could Thad get better? He has offers from LSU, UVA, Va Tech, miami and LSU so far. And calipari and coach k have already seen him jn person so they'll be offering soon. This kids stock is set to blow up even more very soon. Hes a physical freak with all around talent. Just needs to obviously bulk up

On the Crystal Ball, the two guys that are being picked 100% to OSU last I checked the other day were Daniel Giddens (PF/C from GA in the 2015 class) and VJ King (2016 SG/SF), each with at least a handful of predictors.

Re: new players next season (2014 -2015)
Cam Williams (2013)
D'Angelo Russell (2014)
Dave Bell (2014)
Jae'sean Tate (2014)
Keita Bates-Diop (2014)

Just sayin': I sure hope (at least) 2 or more of the above shows the ability to consistently score points and not commit needless turnovers next season.

Just sayin': Why do not we wait until the end of this season before we start talking about next year.

I made the post after reading your posted article on Ohio State recruiting (i.e. including Benji Burke's comments on the incoming recruits):

Some interesting info regarding Ohio State basketball recruiting. I found Trey Burke's father's comments somewhat interesting and about three fourths of the way through the article it sounds like he did not want Tate committing to Ohio State. I think he has some bad feelings towards Matta.

After years of success, here's how Ohio State basketball wound up with an Ohio hole on its roster

Next year's recruiting class should help solve things, and frankly, it looks like what may be a perfect class for Matta. It includes two major out-of-state players in scorers Keita Bates-Diop of Illinois and D'Angelo Russell of Florida, both ranked among the top 25 players in the nation by Rivals.com. It includes two Ohio players in Pickerington Central's Jae'Sean Tate, who comes from the same school as LeVert, and Garfield Heights big man project David Bell.

Benji, who coaches Tate in AAU ball, thought Tate gave his pledge to the Buckeyes too early, before his recruitment had a chance to develop.

“I thought he could have waited and got a better fit for his game,” Burke said. “That's just my opinion. He's an undersized three, that I just don't know where he fits in Ohio State's system. I'm not saying he should not have gone to Ohio State, I'm saying he should have shopped around a little bit.”

If that's the case, then that was well done by the Buckeyes to wrap him up before anyone else could.

We are going after 6'9 Temple transfer Anthony Lee. He averaged 13 and 8 and would be eligible to play next year. Sounds like exactly what we need but a lot of schools are after him
From the article: "In a radio interview with Temple's student run station he said that he'd like to play in the Midwest because he has family there, and he'd like to make a decision in the next few weeks."

Have also seen where he says Indiana would be his favorite at the moment.

Hopefully he gathers some more information and sees that isn't a place to transfer to.
