FAIRBORN ? There are dreams and there are realities, and Ohio State hockey senior Matt McIlvane says he thinks he's looking at reality.
"We realize we haven't gotten to the point of quality like the football team," McIlvane said. "We haven't made our name yet. I feel like we have a good team. We have the right tools. As a group, we feel like we have an unbelievable bunch of guys. To win our league and the national championship, that's our goal."

Congrats to the buckeyes on a great win.

I just got home from the lefty and have to say the crowd was disappointing. Other than that the bucks were hitting hard and had a great upset of Wisconsin to win the invitational.

Here are a few pics, full size available if anyone wants them.

2007-2008 Season

So, among those that follow Ohio State hockey closely, what does Markell need to accomplish this year to put the program back on track?

Well beating Wisconsin in the Lefty Mcfadden Invitational surely did get the Bucks going on the right track!

Buckeyes end Badgers win streak at 17 games; Tessa Bonhomme picks up two more points
MADISON, Wis. ? The 10th-ranked Ohio State women?s hockey team ended No. 1 Wisconsin?s win streak at 17 games, battling the Badgers to a 2-2 overtime tie Sunday at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. The tie also ends Ohio State?s losing streak to the two-time defending NCAA champions at 12 games. The Buckeyes are 1-2-1 overall this season with a 0-1-1 mark in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Wisconsin is 5-0-1 with a 1-0-1 conference record.
The Buckeyes trailed 1-0 after the first period, despite a power play in the last minutes with good scoring chances. Wisconsin got on the board with a power play goal itself at 8:51. From the left goal crease, Jinelle Zaugg flicked in the rebound off a shot by Mallory Deluce to give the Badgers the lead. Bonanno made 14 saves in the opening 20 minutes as UW had a 15-8 advantage in shots. Seven of OSU?s shots were with the man-advantage.

That it did. Some strong recruiting and a big season opening win are definitely the way for Markell to end the perception that the program is in a slide and a great momentum builder going into a tough series to kick off the CCHA against Fredo of Ohio this weekend. How sweet would it be to shatter their misbegotten delusions of grandeur at the very start of the season?

Here's what they think of their younger but superior brother:
