Was at Friday and Saturdays games. Saturdays win definitely made up for Fridays lose. Can't believe how many scUM fans were there. Where do they come from? Why don't they stay there? Pretty good crowd on both nights. Haven't seen that many people at an OSU hockey game since the NHL strike.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Without its leading scorer and best player for almost half a season because of a rare intestinal disorder, Ohio State missed junior Tom Fritsche dearly during an inauspicious start. The Buckeyes went 5-9-4 without him. They are 9-6-1 since the Parma native returned in December and are counting on their junior winger to help guide them past Northern Michigan in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series beginning tonight.

Ohio State's Jackie Barto Selected as Head Coach of U.S. National Women's Hockey Teams

Barto chosen as head coach of U.S. Women's Select and National Teams for two international hockey events

June 7, 2007
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State women's hockey head coach Jackie Barto has been named head coach of the U.S. Women's Select and National Teams for two international events, USA Hockey announced Wednesday. Barto will guide the U.S. teams in the Four Nations Cup, Nov. 7-11 in Leksand, Sweden, and the IIHF World Women's Championship, April 4-13, 2008 in Harbin, China.
"It is an honor to represent the USA and women's hockey at the international level," Barto said. "I am excited to work with everyone involved. This is a great opportunity."
Barto, the first and only women's hockey coach at Ohio State, is beginning her ninth season at the helm of the Buckeyes after guiding the team to a program-best record of 20-13-4 in 2006-07. Ohio State finished the season fourth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings with a team-record 30 league points and hosted the opening round of the league championship playoffs for the first time under the new postseason format. The Buckeyes advanced to the WCHA semifinals and four student-athletes, also a team record, were seleted to All-WCHA teams. Junior defenseman Tessa Bonhomme (Sudbury, Ontario) was a Top 10 Finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, the fourth finalist in OSU history, and earned Second Team All-America honors by the American Hockey Coaches Association, the third Buckeye to receive the award.
Over her eight seasons, Barto has led the Buckeyes to a 122-143-28 overall record while competing in the toughest league in the nation in the WCHA, which holds all seven NCAA championship crowns. Prior to Ohio State, Barto was the head coach at Providence College for five seasons and has an overall career record of 192-196-38 (.495) in her 13 years behind the bench. Barto has been extensively involved with ice hockey on the national level. She recently was a member of the selection committee for the 2006 Winter Olympic U.S. National Women's Hockey team. Barto also was an assistant coach for the 2003 U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team who played a three-game exhibition series against Canada and also competed at the 2003 USA Hockey Women's National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y. In August 1999, she was one of four head coaches at the USA Hockey Women's Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y. and was an assistant coach there in 1998.
Barto served on the NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship Committee from 2000-06 and also is a member of the American Women's Hockey Coaches Association. From 2000-03, she served on the board of governors for the American Hockey Coaches Association and was the president of the American Women's Hockey Coaches Association from 2000-02

May 7, 2007
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's hockey team celebrated its 2006-07 season with a banquet during which the team awards and 2007-08 captains were announced Sunday at the Holiday Inn on the Lane. The Buckeyes concluded the year as the 10th-ranked team in the nation with a 20-13-4 overall record, the most wins in a season in program history. They also reached the WCHA playoff tournament semifinals after finishing fourth in the conference standings with a team-best 30 points and 13-11-4 record.
Junior forward Erin Keys (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) received the Most Valuable Offensive Award after finishing the year with 48 points on 22 goals and 26 assists. Her point total was the second-most by a Buckeye in a season and earned her Second Team All-WCHA honors as well as the USCHO Most Improved Player national award.
The Most Valuable Defensive Award was given to junior defenseman Lisa Chesson (Plainfield, Ill./Chicago Mission). Chesson, a Third Team All-WCHA honoree, finished third on the team with 37 points (13g, 24a) and ranked sixth in the nation in defenseman points per game with 1.00. She was plus-17 with eight power play goals.

A day after claiming highly touted Swedish forward Mikael Backlund in the first round, the Flames added another four prospects.
After Negrin they took hulking 6-ft. 6-in., 208-lb. defenceman Keith Aulie of the WHL Brandon Wheat Kings 116th, OHL Windsor Spitfires centre Mickey Renaud with the 143rd pick, and U.S. Development Program forward C.J. Severyn 186th.
Renaud is the son of former NHLer Mark Renaud, who skated in 152 games for Hartford and Buffalo.
That the Flames dealt away a pair of fifth round picks to Buffalo to choose him in the fourth wasn't lost on the 6-ft. 2-in., 217-lb. centre.
"I think it's a compliment and an honour," Renaud said.
Severyn made his mark with a physical style for the U.S. national Under-18 squad.
The teenager, who'll be skating for Ohio State in Columbus next season, had to wait a while to hear his name.
"It didn't matter to me," he said. "I wasn't nervous at all. I was happy watching my friends go. But it's a good feeling."
