I feel like this stuff has a place in the argument for paying players. I always thought players should at least get a stipend. But when you see this, it's like, athletes get a free education, tutoring, awesome gear, cafeteria, protein shakes, hot tubs, private rec areas, etc. I don't know what I think now.

IMO this is how all universities can indirectly "pay" players and still stay within the rules. If the rules don't allow you to give them cash, build them a nice castle and provide a [Mark May] ton of ancillary support/benefits.

The issue is making the balance sheet look neutral. When you spend an insane amount of money on new facilities (Ohio State tennis for example) it neutralizes the otherwise massive profits athletic departments "could" take in.

The essentially hide their profits in the ever revamping of facilities in an effort to not look greedy.

I think you're missing out on what a tremendous impact these facilities will have on overall program excellence.
They even upgraded the meeting space for the defensive players!

Isn't that Bret Bielema's new house?

Several years ago OSU had to break its media guide in two parts because the NCAA initiated a restriction on size (208 pages). It was considered an unfair recruiting advantage to have a 500 page media guide.

But those pictures are OK?

Ok - this is flat out beautiful.

The mezzanine is a 40 yard track with electronic timers. That's bad ass.

I like the shot of the locker room. The double doors open out and then slide into pockets to remove barriers. There is also a locker for "Uncle Phil."

http://espn.go.com/college-football...gars-low-class-says-oregon-ducks-nick-aliotti

Is this guy serious? The Oregon defensive coordinator, Nick Aliotti, is whining and calling Mike Leach "low class" simply because Leach's team kept passing even though WSU was down 3-4 touchdowns. I guess Aliotti thinks Leach should've had his kids take a knee since Oregon was winning the game in the fourth quarter. :roll1: Just when I thought I couldn't dislike Oregon more.

Did Oregon miss out on the cover? If so, I think we can figure out the real reason he was whining.

Eh, I think it's more the case of a d-coordinator whining because his team giving up 38 doesn't look as good as his team giving up 24. Regardless, the guy's a clown--Leach owes it to his team and his university to go out there and not quit. The fact that Aliotti called Leach "low class" for doing so is ridiculous. Aliotti's a clown for doing so.
