Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Sad to see from a standpoint of feeling for Sammy, but perfectly understandable. Ryan felt Sasso was at about 30% of what he used to be heading into the season and I was worried it would turn out like it did when I heard that. There was nothing unsafe about him wrestling, it was just a matter of realizing we were not likely going to see anything close to what we did before he was shot.

He had an amazing career and to keep it in perspective, the whole incident could have resulted in his death and fortunately he survived and was able to recover. I have no doubts he will find success beyond the mat and he will always be a beloved Buckeye. I hope he can still be around the team in some fashion.

100%. I held off saying it, but I am beyond pissed at some punks on the street that took away his dream. I know the world isn't fair, but that doesn't mean you can't be pissed off at the people that cause stuff like this. I try to practice forgiveness in my personal life and that is a struggle at times, but the criminal justice system is here for a reason to deter this crap. Personally I want these people rotting in a jail cell knowing what the consequences of their actions are, because Sammy put in every ounce of effort and had it taken away by a couple of idiots. More than anything, I just feel for Sammy when he did everything the right way and a senseless crime happens.

Dunno, Bestbuck. While the Sasso shooting would be on page one, above the fold, doubt whether the apprehension of the perps would even be covered, and if so, probably be reported on page 14, beside the feminine hygiene advert. In other words, the newsies are chasing headline stories, which the shooting was, but probably won't expend the energy to bring closure to the sage. Just my opinion, from experience. Bad news sells newspapers (or hits, I suppose), not good news.

So did they find and kill the cocksuckers who did it or what?
Pled guilty to felonious assault a few weeks ago and is awaiting sentencing in April, link below to a short video with the update. Still in jail until that happens, I thought it was two individuals involved but I can only find one individual (Elijah Lee) that has a conviction via a plea bargain. I don't practice in criminal law nor do I practice in Ohio, but how this is not attempted murder is beyond me...unless felonious assault in Ohio carries similar sentencing and its just semantics of what the charge is called.

Doesn't belong here, per se.. but topically OK
Perry qualified all 14 wrestlers to the state tourney
9 champs, 4 runner ups and a 3rd
Amazing... Has that ever happened before
I've always viewed it as ok for the wrestling thread, most of us who post on here are wrestling fans in general even though conversation gravitates towards the Bucks of course. I love talking Ohio wrestling in general and I think we all do.

I believe there are some firsts on that list for Perry, but I recall a year when I wrestled where St. Ed's qualified every wrestler but there were fewer weight classes. Graham came really close a few times and it was usually HWT we didn't get in. Short answer is I think that is a first, just racking my brain if any other team has accomplished that. Graham came close to qualifying everyone, 12 out of 14 this year, albeit that generally that is easier to do in D3 rather than the buzz saw that is D1.

Speaking of Graham, Brogan Tucker will going for the rarified air of a 4th state title at 157...he is committed to NC State but I wish we would have landed him, especially with V. Bouzakis out of the class now. I believe Tucker and Blaze are the two guys that could be a 4 timer this year, although other younger guys can keep on that path with a title.

Here are excerpts from 2 articles, I'm guessing that the 2nd person (Casia Mayfield) will go through juvenile court:

According to an incident report from Columbus police, witnesses say the incident started as a carjacking. Sasso stopped and got out of his car along North High Street. That's when two suspects came up to Sasso, pulled out a handgun and demanded his car before shooting him.
The suspects drove away from the scene.
Columbus police arrested 15-year-old Casia Mayfield and 16-year-old Elijah Lee.
Mayfield is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count each of felonious assault, theft and weapon under disability. Lee is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count each of felonious assault and theft.
Mayfield had 11 warrants out for her arrest, including receiving stolen property, theft and fleeing. In court, prosecutors said she had been in violation on a GPS ankle monitor on a previous case.
Lee was released from the Department of Youth Services on Aug. 13. Sasso's shooting took place five days later. Prosecutors say Lee is the one who pulled the trigger.
The teens are expected to be in court again Sept. 5. The prosecutor is also asking for the teens to be charged as adults.

A teenager who is accused of shooting and seriously injuring Ohio State University wrestler Sammy Sasso is now charged as an adult.
A Franklin County grand jury handed up an indictment against Elijah Lee, now 17, on Thursday. Lee had initially been charged in Franklin County Juvenile Court, and the case was transferred to Common Pleas Court with the indictment.
Lee is now charged as an adult with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count each of theft and felonious assault.
He remains in the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
To be tried as an adult, Lee had several hearings in Juvenile Court where a judge determined there was probable cause that Lee committed the crimes at the heart of his arrest and that any potential court-issued punishments—should he be found guilty—were not adequate at the Juvenile Court level.
