Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Why are you that down on Rodriguez? A top 50 Intermat recruit, he went 13-4 in opens last year. I'm not doubting you, but it seems like he has potential to break the top 20.

I think he'll be serviceable, maybe borderline top 20 down the road. But 125 always has hammers come into that weight every year as freshmen and if you don't "bite as a pup" at that weight (to quote John Cooper), it doesn't get much easier ,whereas the heavier weights do not take as much time typically. Rodriguez was routinely in the middle of the pack at his weight on a national scale and through his senior year in high school. He certainly could improve and make a mark in the national title race, but just from what I have seen suggests a career more in-line with that of Nikko Triggas...plenty of wins over the course of 4 years, but likely not too many deep runs in the NCAA's. Just my opinion though and I would love to be wrong.

Somehow blanked and missed "Who's #1" this year, which tries to pit the #1 and #2 high school wrestlers in the nation against each other at each weight (sometimes it isn't the true #1 and #2, but always highly ranked). Anyways, no OSU commits in this year but two major OSU targets in Jordan DeCatur and David Carr. DeCatur pulled off a massive victory against Gavin Teasdale of PA, who is one of the best in the country regardless of weight. Carr also pulled off a big win against Cameron Coy of PA, who was ranked #1 one spot above him.

Great showing for Ohio against PA and I have my fingers crossed both will be Buckeyes in the near future.

Do any of the resident experts have comments regarding the open at EMU?
They were somewhat limited in who they sent to EMU but the guys that went did OK and some of the backups got some needed match experience. Jordan (149), Pletcher (133), Moore (197) all won titles. Waiting for some video to be posted to give a more detailed analysis of the matches.

At the NWCA All Star match Myles Martin dropped a 13-4 major decision to Gabe Dean. Dean is a hammer at 184 and the prohibitive favorite to win a third title.

I thought I posted the results and my breakdown on each weight, I have no idea why it did not post. Anyways:

125: Not sure why Rodriquez did not wrestle but it would have been a good tourney for him.
133: Pletcher is a stud, good title run.
141: No Hayes, no comment.
149: Nice win for Mic. Little surprised he wrestled but good murdered everyone.
157: Horribly disappointing performance for Jake Ryan. Really hope this was injury related, or he is struggling early to lose weight. Because he lost to nobodies.
165: I like Burcher's performance here. Not going to be an AA hammer you hang your hat on, but I love watching him go and you will always get his 100%.
184: Nice run by Rozema to get to placing. Always liked him for depth.
197: Kollin Moore's win makes me especially happy. I think this kid has TONS of upside and can be the difference maker on our team this year. Really hope he keeps growing and wins a ton of matches this year.

I would be floored if anyone beat Dean this year, absolute stud. If Martin can get us a high AA and get bonus, that would be great. BoJo moving up to 174 gives him an excellent shot at a title but unfortunately it virtually eliminated Myles' chance to repeat this year. It is what is best for the team though imo.

I agree on Myles. He's probably the least likely to repeat of the ones from 2016 but he should be able to AA. I do want to see him against some of those bigger guys in the B1G to see how he is matching up on strength. Bo has a great shot because he looked very good at 174 last season before moving down.

Big news on stud heavyweight Kevin Vough from Elyria...he committed to Boise State. 100% had everything to do with Singletary or I think we take him. Congrats to Kevin though, I am definitely going to have to catch him wrestle at BSU. They are doing a nice job rebuilding that program.

High chances that happens imo. Cool to see Kaleb get the bump up to #1. Really want to pull that combo down, a little disappointed to see Mitch Moore and Kyle Lawson leave the state. But all of those guys would more than make up for it. DeCatur can be our next 125 lb. stud from CVCA (Tomasello being the other). Carr is still growing I think, could be 157/165 and is only getting more and more technically sound. Romero will benefit greatly when he focuses on wrestling and I could see anywhere from 174/184. That would be a TON of firepower and I love, love, love when we can do it with Ohio guys.
