Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Great first round all things considered. Did not expect a fall from Johnny D, that is enormous. And Snyder almost never gets falls, so that extra point is big as well. Ryan and Courts came awfully close to big upsets but we need them both to win a couple matches at least in consolation to really give us a shot.

Myles Martin has a very tough match in Hammond next but if he can get past that match, he has a VERY favorable path to the finals with the upsets...his next match may be the maker-or-breaker for title hopes, it is that important. Mic also has a tough matchup in Thorn but he has beat him every time...then a tough but very winnable match against Jack. Still maintain that those two are the biggest keys to contending for the title. If Johnny D could pull off a win against Montoya, that would be big too...probably won't beat Clark but getting an upset there is still big points to get to quarters.

While we certainly had some triumphs with good wins from Mic and Myles, having both Ryan and Courts go 0-2 gives us very little realistic title hopes. To even be in the discussion, we need all of Toms, Mic, Bo, Myles and Snyder in the finals, plus Johnny D to get on the podium as an AA. I know we got it last year with limited bodies, but it won't happen this year with PSU as strong as they are. Even in the scenario above, we would need Conway to lose in the next semis and not AA, and then we need somebody else to get upset in the championships imo (one of Megaludis, Nolf or McIntosh...Retherford isn't getting stopped..but neither are the others imo). Either way, a good first round has positioned us for a realistic shot at top 3 and as I have maintained all year, that would be a great finish for this team after Hunter was out.

No idea why Mic did not pick bottom...even if Meredith is tough on top, the escape point was crucial to not put so much pressure on him for the takedown...and Mic is super good on bottom. Wrong choice imo, although he still should've won with that takedown. Breaks my heart to see Mic go down on that but he will fight back to AA in all likelihood, which would help.

But to focus on the positives, we are in second place and everyone else in championships wrestled really well. Huge to get bonus out of both Snyder and Bo, great performances. I am thinking we get 3 in finals...most likely Toms, Martin and Snyder. Could be as low as one though, as Gilman is a tough matchup for Toms, Bo cannot seem to beat Isaac and Martin is still a wildcard as a freshman even with a good draw in semi's (although he has been very consistent as of late)...I doubt that happens though.
