Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Can't find it now, but I did see on Twitter that Real Woods/Shane Griffith/Sammy Sasso were returning for a 6th season. I haven't seen it confirmed by Sasso/OSU though.
It can be tough to find updated wrestling news. I had no clue Sasso could potentially have another year. If he can, I imagine he would. Wrestling is much more flexible and he could keep working on his international career. That would make my day to get him back.

Everything I've read indicates Sammy will wrestle next season. He has one more year thanks to Covid. Hoffman I think has not decided yet if he will also use his "extra year".
In other news, Jordan Decatur has entered the portal. Not sure if he knows where he's going but good luck to the guy who I think was undefeated in the wrestle-offs! Maybe will join his brother at Baldwin Wallace. Also, a wrestler from Cal Baptist named Mitchell Messenbrink visited OSU this weekend. He's in the portal and went to Worlds last summer where he met Steiber and Jaggers.
and knows Bouzakis and Feldman from being on that U20 World Team last summer. He's a 165er so not sure how he would fit on the Buckeyes but he's looking for a more challenging wrestling environment which Bucks defnitely have at 165.

I'd love to see him head over to Berea.....I'm a BW grad and was pumped to see them come in 3rd at nationals, just a half point behind Wartburg (Wartburg and Augsburg have won every D3 natty since 1995, for some perspective).

Jacob came in 2nd at 125, lost to a kid that used to wrestle at Campbell....if Jordan joined, BW would have a legit chance to break that streak next year.

Great to know on Sammy, was totally in the dark on him having an extra year. I would be confident that he wants to win a title and comes back, particularly given that I think his odds would be pretty decent with Yianni gone. As said above, game changer and gives us a realistic shot at a title, he scores a lot of team points. Plus it gives Herman a nice RS year to develop.

On Hoffman I am somewhat ambivalent on, if healthy he probably makes the team better unless there is a guy for 197 I don't know about. I did see we have a commit in the '23 class Ryder Rogotzke from Minnesota who could be 184 or 197, 2x Super 32 champ and at one point was #13 overall P4P, so maybe he is the guy there. Otherwise that weight could be a black hole of sorts next year if Hoffman is not back. At the very least, Ryder is one to keep an eye on in the future.

Not surprised on Decatur and frankly I would be doing the same thing, he doesn't have a realistic shot at a roster spot and it is probably best for both sides....not to be negative on him, seemed like a great kid but it just didn't work out. Kilkeary likely slots in at 125, Bouzakis at 133 and Mendez/D'Emilio at 141, so there really is not a chance he starts for us next year but I do hope he finds a spot where he can have success.

Big-time commit today for Coach Ryan and the Buckeyes as Ben Davino from St.Charles, Illinois became an Ohio State Buckeye!
Davino wrestles at 126# right now and still has another h.s.season to go before he heads to Columbus. He is a 3 time state champ
and his overall h.s. record stands at 119 wins and 1 loss. Hardware he has won this past season include Fargo, Who's Number One.
Super 32 and Walsh Ironman. Go Buckeyes!!

Going to be some serious competition at the lower weights soon and I love it...Kilkeary, Davino, Bouzakis, Mendez...get your popcorn ready (I would think Davino will be somewhere in the 133-141 range, but you never know with growth spurts I suppose). As for Ben, welcome aboard! Quite the resume, I was happy to be seeded in the top 8 at the Ironman, winning the tourney is ridiculously tough. Plus his record is insane for wrestling such difficult tournaments. Saw he was #5 overall on the Big Board, so this is a huge recruiting victory. If I am PSU, I would be seeing OSU as the clearest threat to their dynasty.

Vic Voinovich, a National Qualifier this season from Oklahoma State at 149#, has entered the portal. His record this past year was 16-1.
This is only newsworthy here because he is an Ohioan that wrestled at Brecksville H.S. and won two Ohio wrestling state titles. Maybe he'll be interested in coming home, maybe not. We'll see.
Good to know. Vic is a stud, I hope we go after him lock, stock and barrel. I was really bummed to not land him in the first place, really terrific wrestler. Also an Ironman runner-up in HS, so talent is there.

Looks like he went 17-13 this year, but 16-1 in his true frosh year wrestling in opens. Kind of surprising to me on this year's record, but if we can get the kid in on a reasonable scholarship then I am all about it. Could be the Sasso succession plan, or at least someone that competes at 149/157.

Buckeyes add 125-pounder Peyton Fenton to their roster. Wrestled at Elyria H.S. where he won state one year and placed 3rd another year. Wrestled for U. of Virginia last year. He will compete with Gonzalez, Kilkeary, and McCrone in a 4-way battle to start at 125.
In other news, congrats to Bouzakis and Mendez for making the U20 World team.

Bouzakis won the U20 Pan-Am yesterday and absolutely DESTROYED everyone in his path. All pins and tech falls before the finals, which he capped off with a 14-4 major decision. Very impressive. Bouzakis and Mendez wrestling back-to-back is going to be a treat to watch. Really the whole team this year should be exciting pretty much from top to bottom, get the popcorn ready.
