Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Welp, with the PSU dual that was not far off what I expected. Knew we would get blasted, but disappointed in a few matches. To wit: 1. Mendez I am bummed on losing by that much, RBY is really good but Mendez is from the same cloth coming out of HS, would hope to see a closer match there. 2. Paddy got smoked by a frosh, a good one but Paddy was supposed to be that good or better a year ago. 3. HWT was also embarrassing...shows recruiting misses hurt, Kerkvliet was supposed to be a Buckeye and here we are suffering over that loss.

We were going to lose to PSU but the gap in a dual at home after you start off with a fall....no. Good follow up win against Northwestern, but this season is kind of a wash. I see maybe 3 guys tops getting on the podium this year and likely none in the finals. Also why I wanted Mendez to redshirt because we had no chance this year, but that's gone. But trying to be patient, a lot guys are out of eligibility next year and we are being in a ton of talent.

Enjoyed watching this dual as almost every match was close. Here's the results for those that don't get B10 +....

133... #9 Mendez vs. #13 Cannon. Mendez caught a hand swipe to the forehead that brought blood almost immediately and after a
delay for bandaging it was 0-0 after1st. He was down 3-1 after 2nd but had a clutch td to force SV where he won on another td.
141 ... In a battle of escapes #18 D'Emilio was ahead of #8 Tal-Shaher 2-1 until a td late in the 3rd gave the Wildcat the dec. 3-2.
149 ... #3 Sasso vs.#4 Thomas who he beat earlier this year at Cliff Keen. Sammy prevailed in Tie Breaker after a curious decision by
his opponent to take neutral down 1-0 in the last 30-sec. period.
157 ... (in the voice of The Rock "Finally..Paddy has returned to the mat!") He was not to be denied tonight winning in Tie Breaker.
165... Kharchla also won a close one 3-2 with a last minute td to come from behind.
174 ...Ethan Smith beat #17 Troy Fisher 7-3 with 3 tds.
184 ...Kaleb Romero sat this one out and Seth Shumate had a little trouble getting started going down 5-1 before getting a td and later a reversal to tie it up before falling behind again but then clinched his 1st varsity win with a late td beat Bates 7-6.
197 ...Luke Geog made his varsity debut and early in the 1st got his 1st varsity points with a td. A nice reversal gave him an 8-4 lead
in the 3rd and riding time gave him his final point as he beat Andrew Davison 9-5 in a very impressive debut.
Hwt ... Davison's bro Lucas got revenge for his brother by pinning Tater in 6:03.
125 ...#8 Michael DeAugustino defeated #10 Malik Heinselman in the final match 4-1. I don't know if it was waiting till last to wrestle or
he just was coming down off the high of pinning a Nittany Lion but Malik just seemed to 'not have it' tonight.

FINAL SCORE OSU 21-NW 12.

Really nice bounce back against NW, several quality wins there. Missed that one live, quick turnaround after PSU. I'll have to go back and watch it on replay.
Maybe you can watch the Sasso match and explain to me why Yaya Thomas chose neutral at the end of the tie-breaker when Sasso led 1-0.
Seems to me 30 seconds to escape would be easier than 30 to take down someone like Sasso which he failed to even come close to doing.

I'll watch it soon and weigh in, but Sasso has been pretty poor on his leg defense this year and it was probably a calculated risk. But seems odd in that situation regardless because then Sasso knows what is coming and can defend it with only 30 seconds.

Going to be a fun one to watch and glad it is on the BTN. Would love to rock the Corn on Senior Night and send our seniors out in style. Car is in the shop and I am stuck at home tonight, so this will be a nice way to spend the night. Really looking forward to 125 if Cronin wrestles, 174, and 184. To some extent 157 but Paddy has not wrestled the way I hoped he would this year and Robb is an animal. Either way, lets go wrestling Bucks!

Not sure how Ryan is going to fix his lineup but Ohio Wrestling.net is reporting no Kharchla and no Romero tonight. With "supersub"
Wilcox also injured we are deep into our bench tonight...stay tuned.

Sumbitch what happened? Guess I should have stayed tuned in. Shite
Thanks Best buck, after that mess I needed a laugh! Anyhoo for anyone that was lucky enough to miss this here is how it went down...
125 ... Heinselman almost had a td with a single leg in the 1st but couldn't finish. His opponent almost had a td in the 2nd and finished..
3-1 loss. For 4 years we've been watching Malik being overpowered by quality wrestlers.
133 ... Everyone loves watching Mendez because he delivers, as in 8 tds! Won 21-10 and 8 of Burwick's points were when Jesse let him up.
141 ... D'Emilio got a buzzer beater td to force SV but lost by a td to Hardy.
149 ... Sasso pinned for the 10th time this season as Morton fell to the cradle at 6:32.
157 ... Hard Luck Paddy . He never gives up but seldom wins. Tonight he drew #1 Peyton Robb and went toe-to-toe for 6 solid minutes and
should've been rewarded with sudden victory, but the ref gave Robb the match after deliberation. Coach Ryan thought a last 2nd move
should've been a td + back points but was not convincing enough.
165 ... No Kharchla. Gavin Brown offered little resistance in a 19-4 loss.
174 ... Smith vs. Labriola. Good, even match that Smith wo..no, should've won but it ended with Smith getting what what sure looked like
a buzzer beater tying td just like in the 157 match. This one also went against OSU, so 6-4 loss.
184 ... Gavin Bell vs. Lenny Pinto who didn't "horse around" with a fall in 2:53.
197 ... Luke Geog looked so good against NW and not so good against Nebraska. Was dominated by Allred in an 11-2 major.
HWT ... Tater showed up, the other guy didn't...forfeit.
FINAL SCORE Nebraska 25-16. Last duel vs. Cornell 2/18 in Florida...hope the varsity shows up!
