Game Thread Ohio State vs UNLV, 09/23/17 @ 12:00 ET (BTN)

UNLV fan can make me a fucking sandwich on their way out. They were paid $1.3M to provide a tune up game and were treated accordingly. I've seen Ohio State truly take the plunger to a team many times. This wasn't one of those games.
I'm with you. I figured my pause at the end of my post was a big enough sarcasm indicator. Anyone who thinks what Ohio State did today was classless can kick rocks.

Thoughts:
JT was on point today
Receivers are definitely improving
OL did a great job in the first half
Dobbins could have had 300+ yds. today.
Impressed with Saunders. He deserves more playing time
Hill and Campbell are emerging weapons
First team D looked good
I liked the pressure the front seven put on the QB
A couple INTs were nice to see
Sub par competition but tons of guys got needed playing time.
Love our punter
Did great on kickoff coverage today and overall special teams.

GO BUCKS!!BEAT RUTGERS!

I am overly critical I realize that but once the backups came in Midway through the second it just felt like we let the foot off the gas and really struggle to finish the game strongly. It's a win and our starters really performed well but I think the momentum of the game really could have helped us surgeon to the next game had we finished strong.

Not upset but the game just didn't flow well with all the penalties and all the back ups

You think beating up on a shit team is going to help them surge on to next week? Do you even know what you're saying?

I'm currently banned from Twitter for calling LeBron James a twat.

 I'm just tired of hearing his tongue-in-cheek comments about Ohio State still throwing the ball with their backup QB, walk on RB, former DL at TE, etc in the game. They could put 90 year old 70th year seniors in the game at WR, and he would still be bitching.

Hot take: I would rather hear the lack of enthusiasm in Beth Mowins' voice, than hear Millen call another game for Ohio State. Let him go bitch about the Big XII never learning how to play defense or something.

Well in my opinion this was a huge wasted opportunity for the Buckeyes today. This is not a game plan that we will be executing against better teams and the fact that we threw the ball as much as we did in my opinion accomplishes nothing when it doesn't practice the tempo and the play selection that we are going to need in the future. We took our starters out Midway through the second quarter which I think is a little early.

I think we all know the reason why Dwayne Haskins isn't the starting quarterback as well because while he's shows major promise and extreme arm Talent you can tell on a few of his throws he really trust his arm a little too much right now.

I'm very disappointed in our back up defense as well with the fact that we could not control the line of scrimmage with our deep defensive line. That team should have never scored one touchdown and we let them have two subtracting the Pick 6.

Overall this should have been a game that we came away from with great confidence, great rhythm, and more importantly practiced the game plans that we are going to need to win the Big Ten.

I think the only thing we probably should have done differently all game was leave the starters in until halfway through the 3rd. The game just felt so disjointed and choppy because of the backups being in for the majority of the game. I understand that they need wraps but I am not a fan of wholesale changes that early in a game.

On the bright side JT looks strong, Dobbins looked like the player we have come to know, our receivers were awesome, our dline truly lived five yards deep into the backfield, and bottom line we were playing the ball well in the air minus Kendall Sheffield.

Speaking of which I really think there is an issue there with Kendall and perhaps we are seeing why he could not get on the field at Alabama. It is early yet and maybe he will grow into his role but right now teams are finding him and going down field because they know they'll either complete it or they'll get a pass interference

Good grief, negative Nancy. The game was over in the second quarter. They spent the last 35 minutes practicing the backups.

We need to be able to throw the ball to win the Big Ten. So I'm all for throing 40 to 45 times against UNLV and Rutgers to fix the pass game. You don't work on play selection for future games in blowouts you work on weaknesses that you need to be better at.

Also if you don't think our Dline controlled the line of scrimmage I don't know what the fuck you were watching. The Dline was in the backfield nearly every play all game long. The LB's and DB's were what let the defense down. Especially the backups.
Clearly i was talking about the back up dline and no they didn't..

I get that we have to pass i really do but I really think it needs to be off of our run game. Just dropping back and throwing is different then hitting two good run plays and then going play action.

Will we do what we did today against PSU or scum? Answer is a resounding NO so what did we really accomplish for the future here today? IMO we treated it like a throw away game with an opportunity to play the young guys. Which is fine but I just personally feel it would've been better to use it to practice what we will do when the games get tough.

I'm not upset, it's a win and our back ups got PT but again just not sure how we got better today.

You think beating up on a [Mark May] team is going to help them surge on to next week? Do you even know what you're saying?
Jesus Christ no wonder no one visits here as much... if a person says something critical it's like punching baby Jesus.

And obviously you never played football with not understanding that YES beating a shitty team LIKE THEY'RE A SHITTY TEAM most defiantly gives a team a carry over effect.

Um did you watch the 4 or 5 straight reed option plays where they dlineman chose wrong 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage really?

If we can throw the ball dencently against SCUm or PSU then certainly we did. Cause we couldn't throw on Oklahoma and that was a big issue.
