Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

I've seen this message a couple of times here and on twitter. Call me confused but is that not Urban was supposed to do in the offseason? I thought this was Wilson's offence from the get go. Kind of meaningless to have a dedicated OC if Urban is getting too involved in the game plan and play calling.
Its been mentioned multiple times.. Its Urban's offense with someone else running it and some of their philosophies sprinkled in.

The team has lost 2 of its last three games scoring 0 and 16 pts. respectively in the losses. Pointing to JT seems logical.

Perhaps, but in 2015 when the offense was sluggish with Jones people pointed at him. Then we got JT. When the offense was sluggish with him people pointed at Tim Beck. Now the offense is still sluggish with JT and we're pointing at him.

Maybe the solution isn't putting in a QB who has barely played, or played at all? Maybe the problem starts at the top? We have a different OC, but what about our offense looks different? Anything?

I don't see the point of bringing in an OC if you're not consistently letting him call his plays.
He's calling the plays but its from Urban's playbook not his own...

This is why many up and coming OCs wont take the Ohio State job... they wont be able to run their own playboook.

It could be easily argued 2 of the worst losses in Meyer's coaching career happened in the last (3) games. And I'm not just talking about losing, but how they lost. FL got blown out in a SEC championship game, but that was against Alabama.

Meyer had (8) mos. to fix Ohio State's offensive problems ...

Checked out Landthieves. Man, those are some sore, bitter winners. You'd think it was some program like Minnesota that we've pushed around for forty years letting it all out rather than a program that supposedly has been there before. And oh yeah, it's about 90% pro flag planting with none of the Okies able to distinguish singing the alma mater with the band from acting like some WWE freak.

What do you expect in a state where everyone with any brains and ambition left during the dust bowl leaving the dullards and the weak behind to breed among themselves for the ensuing 80 years.

Pretty much all Oklahoma has to be proud of is college football, much like AL/MS/LA. So let them "enjoy" the win as it makes them less likely to go postal lol.

Oklahoma is literally the university responsible for the phrase "we want to build a university that the football team can be proud of." Their President said it to the state legislature in 1951; they're still trying to achieve his dream.

They produced Bosworth. We produced Spielman. I think that says all that needs to be said about the difference between the two programs.

Well certainly nobody is going to accuse Baker Mayfield of being a class act. And shame on ESPiN for helping incite his actions during the post game interview and further for telecasting his juvenile antics.

I remember Woody's later years, when it seemed like we just kept doing what used to work thinking all we needed to do was practice harder. Then when he did bring in a passing QB he tried to be something he was not, and it didn't work.

If Urban is just going to stick to his philosophy then what difference does a new OC make? We'll win some games with superior talent, and maybe a false sense of security settles in. Then we'll run into a team with similar talent...

I couldn't care less about what they're doing. When you get punked on your home field, the other team gets to celebrate however they see fit to do it.

My thoughts

1. Two QB runs from the 5 yard line when running th ball got you down the field....inexcusable
2. Teams are forcing JT to win games...he isn't great in the passing game unless the Running backs take over the game and he isn't a huge running threat....defenses key on our running backs for the option, forcing JT to run...solution, dedicated plays to the backs.
3. JK averaged 5 yards a carry, Webber 9 ypc...combined they had less carries than IT.

The last time I was impressed with our passing attack, we had zeke ripping off 150 a game.

The fact of the matter is, we all saw what this offense is capable of in the Spring Game.

The same WRs "not getting separation" while Barrett was playing did not somehow start getting separation while Burrow and Haskins were playing - but the latter 2 hit them down field and in stride. JT has shown time and time again he simply cannot do so.

Secondly, it all come backs to coaching. How are our WRs not able to get separation against a secondary that was abused by an Oklahoma attack featuring a *true freshman* at TE? Zac Smith - I hear Pantoni has an opening on his staff.

Lastly, the LB corp looked really bad last night. I see a lot of people blaming Schiano but no one talking about Billy Davis - the dude in charge of coaching LBs. Schiano at least has a track record; Davis has been terrible at seemingly every coaching stop, including the NFL. We need to keep an eye on his performance going forward.

I hope Urban is willing to make the hard changes that will be needed
