We can all rip Corey Smith for what he lacked in production at Ohio State but if a backup wide receiver at Ohio State truly believes that Haskins was the better quarterback then that's good enough for me because he is the one that is working with these guys and he sees what each one brings to the tableIt means that Corey Smith thinks that Haskins should be the starting QB.
Speed w asnt the issue last night thoIf you asked me a couple years ago if it was "unreal expectations" to have Urban Meyer as your head coach and expect them to reload every single year,I would have disagreed. Alabama has kicked the [Mark May] out of most teams every single year, and reloads with names we don't even know who take right back over and kick the [Mark May] out of everyone the following year. I do agree with everything else you stated, though. There is no identity on this team and too many people look scared to lose.
I spent last year telling myself that the WR's were never getting any separation and JT would lead this team given the chance. He isn't hitting people in stride. He isn't looking to throw to anyone but his first option. The screen passes are so beyond telegraphed it's hard to watch them run them.
Oklahoma is a very fast team, and Mayfield is a solid QB. Watching him run the offense only made watching JT even more painful. It honestly looks like something has got to him mentally, and he just can't shake it. When he is in the pocket he is looking to unload RIGHT NOW. Instant paranoia when he's in the pocket and sees opposing team's jerseys. These are the games that count. I don't care if he throws for 300 yards against unranked teams.
Exactly... our back ups found them for big yards but even when JT was in for 1 quarter couldn't even do it. I will never under stand having unwavering trust in someone regardless of how they're performingThe fact of the matter is, we all saw what this offense is capable of in the Spring Game.
The same WRs "not getting separation" while Barrett was playing did not somehow start getting separation while Burrow and Haskins were playing - but the latter 2 hit them down field and in stride. JT has shown time and time again he simply cannot do so.
Secondly, it all come backs to coaching. How are our WRs not able to get separation against a secondary that was abused by an Oklahoma attack featuring a *true freshman* at TE? Zac Smith - I hear Pantoni has an opening on his staff.
Lastly, the LB corp looked really bad last night. I see a lot of people blaming Schiano but no one talking about Billy Davis - the dude in charge of coaching LBs. Schiano at least has a track record; Davis has been terrible at seemingly every coaching stop, including the NFL. We need to keep an eye on his performance going forward.
I hope Urban is willing to make the hard changes that will be needed
He's calling the plays but its from Urban's playbook not his own...
This is why many up and coming OCs wont take the Ohio State job... they wont be able to run their own playboook.
Most Buckeye fans wanted Tim Beck run out of town on a rail because they believed he was doing exactly that. Any chance you were one of them? The head coach has the right and the responsibility to govern every single aspect of his team's performance, coaches' and players' both.I don't see the point of bringing in an OC if you're not consistently letting him call his plays.
How we should know this isn't an offense Kevin is comfortable with is we have seen ZERO screens. No wide receiver slips screens, no pulling lineman for a running back and hell we don't even do touch passes or fly sweeps anymore. It's concerning that Urban is doing the same crap that became problematic at Florida. I just can't figure out why he doesn't hand the reigns over to Wilson. The ironic thing about this is that Urban said he wasn't going to get too involved when he was first hired on.
All I know is that it certaintly isn`t the offense that gave us headaches when he was at IU. I believe that is what most of us were anticipating with this hire. When I`m watching the game and calling the play based on formation and down and down and distance it was like jast 2 years all over again. How we should know this isn't an offense Kevin is comfortable with is we have seen ZERO screens. No wide receiver slips screens, no pulling lineman for a running back and hell we don't even do touch passes or fly sweeps anymore.
I'm beginning to become very impatient with Urbans stuborness... Let a good OC run the show. There's a reason urban went from WR coach to head coach and it's because he's not a experienced OC. Kevin is urban so let him run the show and back the fuck off.
Want to win Urban? Then do less and allow change.
So we all agree there's room for improvement.
