Yea seriously. Congrats to scUM and Notre Lame for winning when they were the only 2 teams playing.
That wouldn't help. If they were the only 2 teams playing they'd have a combined win % of .500 which would decrease their actual win %.
I think you are missing the point here.

Why the change in data?

I was wondering why there is now a big change in the data and the ranking since the thread began? I just looked it up and this is what it came up with.

1 Michigan 0.74533 860 282 36 1178
2 Notre Dame 0.74382 821 269 42 1132
3 Texas 0.71756 813 310 33 1156
4 Ohio State 0.71228 786 302 52 1140
5 Oklahoma 0.70995 758 294 53 1105

According to CFBwarehouse's Division I-A All-Time Winning Percentage page, we're still #3 (barely):

1. Michigan 860-284-38 (.744)
2. Notre Dame 821-270-41 (.743)
3. Ohio State 788-301-53 (.713)
4. Texas 810-316-34 (.713)
5. Oklahoma 765-295-53 (.711)

CFBwarehouse and Stassen give slightly different numbers; possibly because Stassen does not include data from years when a program was not considered I-A, and possibly because Stassen looks at every school's records for the score of every game. Where there are discrepancies they delve deeper until they find out the true story, or at least the most likely story.

THIS PAGE shows how they arrived at their numbers for OSU's record.

For those who really give a rip, I can make the raw Excel file available.

Hmm ...

When Mili posted the update at the end of the last regular season, we had:

Dec 20, 2006: Michigan 859-282-36 (.745)

now it's:

Aug 08, 2007: Michigan 860-284-38 (.744)

Amazing! Michigan went 1-2-2 this past spring?!

They were 1-1-2 in the spring. The other loss was the Rose Bowl.

Good enough for me. I have seen different all-time records before. As someone else said though, someone would have to do some major research to disprove that. In the past, I compiled all the game scores for a local high school and had to go back to the 1920s for that, and I know how difficult that was. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to come up with a 100% positive record unless the records were really impeccable.
