Ohio State now #3 in All-Time Winning Percentage, #5 in Wins

Conference games only. Here's something I wrote about it last month, but I've now updated the last line in the table for the 2000s to be current.

Here are the records of each team in Big Ten Conference games, by decade, before The Game in 2008. tOSU joined the Big Ten in 1913.

Here is a decade by decade listing of the all-time W-L records for both teams (Big Ten Conference games only):

All-time record in Big Ten Conference games, as of Nov 16th:
TSUN: 463-171-18, 72.39%
tOSU: 446-164-24, 72.24%

But since tOSU won in November, 2008, there's a new leader:
tOSU: 447-164-24, 72.2835%
TSUN: 463-172-18, 72.1818%

The Buckeyes originally took over that mark from TSUN in mid-1963, and held it until late in 1989. TSUN has held that distinction for almost 20 years, but after tOSU won last month, the Buckeyes supplanted TSUN as the team with the highest all-time winning percentage in Big Ten Conference games.

Note - Before 1946, the Big Ten discounted ties in factoring the winning percentages within the conference. But discounting 10 ties for tOSU and 6 ties for TSUN would still yield the same result: an Ohio State win resulted in them passing TSUN for all-time winning percentage in Big Ten Conference games.

The Ten Year War must have been fucking awesome to experience. Those winning percentages for both teams in the 70's are absolutely out of this world ridiculous, add to it the undefeated seasons with the only loss (or tie) coming from the other school ['69, '73 for OSU, '70, '72, '73, '74 for tsun), it almost makes me wish I was alive to watch it, but then I would be old, so I'll just enjoy reading about it.

This makes re-taking the conference winning % title especially sweet for me.

We originally took it the year I was born...

We lost it the year I graduated from Ohio State(I did a tour in the military before college)...

May we stay in the lead throughout the rest of my life...

...and my son's life...

...and his son's life...

...and so on...

Appearences as Number One in the poll:
1. Oklahoma 97
2. Notre Dame 95
3. Ohio State 93
4. USC 90
5. Nebraska 70
6. Miami (FL) 68
7. Florida State 60
8. Texas 45
9. Florida 41
10. Alabama 39

I don't see Notre Lame doing it again in the foreseeable future, and I can easily imagine passing them this upcoming year - and then leaving them in the dust. Choklahoma will do it again, and relatively soon - but probably not too soon - so we may catch them this upcoming year or next. If Carroll would have kept his shit together, USC would be nearing the going through the top in the next three or four years. As it is, they are going to be down a couple of years, if not longer.

Since this thread was last visited (2004), Ohio State has moved up from 6th to 4th in wins, passing Alabama and Nebraska. I imagine scum will pass the Buckeyes in LOSSES in the next year or so, along with Oklahoma and USC, then ND will also pass the Bucks in losses within four years. We should then pass ND in wins in the next five years.

Catching Texas in wins won't happen soon, unless Texas can sustain a long lasting meltdown (doubtful), nobody reading this now will ever see it. Passing Nebraska may happen in my lifetime. Passing scum in total wins will almost assuredly happen in my lifetime

tOSU has moved up from 5th to 4th in winning percentage, passing Alabama and Oklahoma, while Texas moved past us.

Current (spring 2010) standings:
......school........wins...loses...ties...percentage
1...Michigan.......877...304.....38......0.735
2...Texas..........845....321.....34......0.718
3...Nebraska......837....341.....41......0.703
4...Notre Dame..837....291.....41......0.734
5...Ohio St........819....308.....53......0.717
6...Penn St........812....351.....43......0.691
7...Oklahoma.....797....305.....53......0.713
8...Alabama.......792....316.....43......0.707
9...Tennessee....783....333.....54......0.692
10..U.S.C..........775....306.....54......0.707

The biggest loser: Though Alabama (and Oklahoma) will join the 800 win club this year they, dropped from 5th to 8th - and their free fall will probably continue.

Huh? How did Alabama drop in going undefeated and winning a national championship, and how did we move past them in winning percentage?

EDIT: I'm guessing you mean since the last time this thread was updated, which I see now was 2004.

You can't be serious. Michigan is 58 wins ahead of us. If we won 10 games a year while Michigan only won six a year, it would take us 15 seasons to pass them. No fucking way Michigan averages a 6-6 season for 15 years in a row. Once they wise up and get rid of DickRod, they'll be decent again. Heaven forbid if they hire Harbaugh. If Michigan went 8-4 every year while we went 10-2 (excluding bowls, of course) then it would still take us 29 years to catch them. I seriously doubt that Michigan averages only 8 wins a year (once they boot DickRod) and I also doubt we average 10 wins a year for three decades.

Mili--not everyone that posts on this board is as old as BB73. We can wait it out.
