OHIO STATE 49, WISCONSIN 48 (Final)

It's almost like the refs allow the oppsition to bang on Greg to "even the playing field" so to say.

Okay, so it wasn't just me thinking that.

The officials were awful throughout the whole game. And it wasn't just about Oden or against Ohio State. They were basically just flipping coins out there to determine what they're call would be.

The game was 49-48 for a reason. And it's because of how much both teams were getting away with. There's "letting them play" and then there's "letting them hack". Big Difference and I believe we saw the latter today.

If that had been an ACC game, the walk ons would have been forced to play because everyone else would have fouled out.

Somewhere in between would have been nice.

Pretty much sums up my feelings.

Badger fans complaining about Oden walking and no calls!

Walking happens when your opponent gives you a hip/leg shot that goes unignored. I'm not one to complain about officiating, especially after a big win, but officiating like today could allow someone like Sparty to win the Big 10 title. Granted, neither team shot the ball lights out, but Oden was taken out of the game by the way it was called. And, I don't give a rats ass about the total number of fouls called, or free throw attempts. What wasn't called was as big as what was. Round two is over, we'll see if a round three occurs during the Big 10 Tourney. And, by the way, I think Wisky is a helluva opponent.

I agree completely. I would take a 1-0 victory over that team and feel relieved.

Incidentally, this guy apparently didn't notice that the game was dictated by physicality allowed by the Big Ten officials.

From the story:

So if you're asking me to name the best team in the country, I can only tell you this:

The best team in America wasn't in town on Sunday.

Unless Kansas happened to be stuck at the Columbus airport.

Kansas?!? :slappy:

Normally Doyel is ok, but this is beyond stupid.:shake:

ETA: The shot he takes at Brian Butch in that article is completely unprofessional and unwarranted. Somehow I'm not surprised that someone at CBS would say something like that. :shake:

CNNSI is wrong, as usual (recap):

It's not outright yet. If we should lose at Michigan and Wisconsin beat Michigan State, it will be a co-championship, not outright (both OSU and UW would have 14-2 conference records and have split their games against each other). You know Wisconsin wants payback for losing to them on Tuesday and you know nothign would make Michigan's season sweeter than to upset us on their court in the conference finale...

Mili, I think you just pwned yourself.

well, in the last couple weeks, i've watched Ohio State blow HUGE leads to inferior opponents, and barely pull out what should have been 20+ point wins. i've also watched Kansas EXTEND huge leads, and take what should have been 20 point wins and make them 30 or 40 point wins.

simply put, i love the talent, but i do not think the Buckeyes have the mental makeup to win it all. they are 26-3 in spite of themselves. they play sloppy, they make stupid mistakes indicative of a lack of concentration, they forget how to run the offense, they stand around, they settle for 30 foot jumpers with hands in their face, they get out rebounded, and they stop playing at halftime when they have a big lead. they are incredibly inconsistent. talent alone can get you a #1 seed. but you need the right mentality if you're going to go on a 6 game win streak in late March. i don't want to seem like i'm being hard on them, because i love this team. they've been a pleasure to watch, and i can't remember an Ohio State squad with this kind of talent. i wasn't around in the '60s, and i think this team has more raw talent than the teams of the early '90s.

the ONLY way that this team makes a run in the NCAA tourney is if Mike Conley seizes control of this team. he has gone on record complaining about lack of veteran leadership. well, Mike, you've played 29 games. you aren't a rookie any more. if you think someone needs to step up and lead this team, look no further than your mirror.

this team will go as far as Conley takes them. but he HAS to seize control.

I think there a few big things that need to happen. Firstly, Matta has to allow Conley to take control of this team. He is so in control out there, and does play like a veteran. He passes up those stupid threes that many players take and creates points by penetrating.

Secondly, when we play with intensity on both sides of the ball, we are tought to beat. But we do not always do that. This also includes Oden and getting involved more. He rarely shows dominance on the offensive end. Too often I see him catching the ball outside of the paint, dribbling once or twice, and settling for a difficult shot. I don't know if he needs to establish better position, or back down his defenders more when he has the ball, but he should be owning most centers he plays against.

Also, in our losses this year, and our wins, it seems that Matta lets the team continue to play when an opposing team is going on a run. I would like to see him take more timeouts when we are tired, and other teams are going on a run. Too often I see him letting our young team stay out there and get in trouble.

I think we have a good chance to do very well in the tournament, but it will depend if we can put things together. We have the potential, now we just need to get everyone on the same page and work together as a team.

:oh:

Kansas is a good team, no doubt, but they've found ways to lose games that they shouldn't have. Most teams have done that at one point or another this season, but Kansas has done it two times (DePaul and Texas Tech).

They'll probably be either the 4th #1 seed or the top #2 seed in the tournament.

That said, they aren't a clear cut favorite. No one truly is this year. Everything is even. That was my point.

Picking one team out of the pack of 8-10 right now is stupid.

Great timing, LVB. I have it on livephish.com radio, stash jam right now. Anyway, I love how everyone has at least something to do better, and how to fix it, and I know, I know, everyone loves a blowout, including me. Should we beat Ann Arbor (is a whore) at their place, take a bye and then hit the B10 title game, at that point I think we are THE #1 seed in the tourney waiting for the play-in game winner. That right there is good enough for me. What a season! The Thad5 just happened and no one has seemed to notice! Go Bucks!

That and the fact that Bill Self coached teams are notorious tournament choke artists.

I sincerely hope and pray that Kansas is a one seed. Finally, a 16-seed will have a legitimate shot.
