OHIO STATE 49, WISCONSIN 48 (Final)

perhaps the best part of today's game, besides the obvious, is that conley's last-second shot might have boosted his confidence to take the team's reins. for him to take the shot is one thing. for him to make the shot is quite another. conley's play is just huge for the team in more than one way.

i was talking to my pops about that. IMHO, he absolutely needed to take the last shot. despite all the pub that Oden gets, this team will only go as far as Conley takes them. it's his team.

Anyone else think this game alone helps keep Cook in school for another year? He needs development and not just on defense.

Maybe.

I think it really depends on who he's listening too.....I'm pretty sure Matta will tell him to come back for another year.....

I know I've said this before, but I LOVE watching Conley play. He's so fast, so smooth on the court.

As for Oden, something tells me that he needs to play with more emotion, but I feel like if he did play with more emotion he would foul out every game. The refs certainly let him get abused.

his decision will not be determined by any regular season or conference tournament game. his decision will be determined by his play in the big dance, as well as by his family's welfare. march madness writes the contracts.

Dude, this was one of the weirdest games I've ever seen.
The last five minutes are the most heartwrenching I've ever seen.

It felt like a march madness game, only better. Wisconsin definetly gets my respect for playing the way they did without Butch.

I heard the "one more year" chants. I think Oden has shown that he's still kind of raw. And Cook didn't have much of a impact on this game. If they come back next year, watch out. May be an undefeated season we may be looking at with Kofous, Oden, and Connely on the lineup.

play of the game: matta putting back in his mouth the gum that dropped to the court. if he doesn't put that gum back in, who knows how the game would have ended. good call, matta. that decision set the tone for the remainder of the game.

Apparently the 3 second rule applies to gum on the court too.

Finally a win over a quality opponent and the 2nd consecutive Big 10 Championship.

I don't think that's his problem at all. I think he needs better body control and his wrist to heal. He's never been one to scream or yell at the refs but he's still intense.

some thoughts.

atmosphere. first and foremost i got a good luck at one of those student papers. great idea. id like to see that at the beg of the season next year. maybe a couple of early games hand those out and then a big game do it again. whoever came up with that GREAT IDEA. the fans were loud and though i dont agree with every boo. its nice to see some emotion in the place.

st johns. boy its a nice place, but i was sitting there today in the schott thinking that more than 19k got to see that game. 13200 would fit in st johns. about six thousand people wouldnt have been able to witness that game. i was really reminded by every light in the place being on. i can remember those days in st johns. i like it when the house lights are on and you can see the last guy in the place...

b10 champs. congrads on back to back folks.

officiating, hillary, skilles and welmer. not a bad game really, a few questionable calls that im not sure how they really went until i rewatch the game later. they let the boys play. i like that.

oden, "one more year" i told everyone to enjoy it. whatever has happened youve if youve been to a game have witnessed something special. i hope you enjoyed every second of it. no matter his decscion, thank you greg for your involvement in the program. were guys all over him yes, did he get a couple of traveling calls, one or two id like to see again, yes. but hes gonna have to play through that for the rest of his playing days.

conley, i said it in his thread. "be quick, dont hurry" john wooden. i believe he led the team in rebounding. had a couple of nice steals. id still like to see him a little more assertive with his jump shot. played very well.

ron lewis. what were those on his feet? moon shoes? i guess the tin man goes out how he came in, rocking in style... left a lot to be desired im my view. stuggled offensivley and on the def end of the floor. though he limited his turnovers. played better def in the second half. congrats ron on a nice run. enjoy life with your little girl. anyone else see that hug and kiss? good stuff.

hunter, O had a more limited role again today. had a nice basket. still think hunter will be a key guy come tourney time.

harris. glad to see ivan go out with a nice game. played real well, shot well, rebounded well. def he played pretty well. its been a pleasure to watch him play, i dont care what anyone says. im glad to see he stuck it out through the coaching changes and has been rewarded for that.

butler, run killer. made only one basket from the field i think, but it was a big 3. played good defense and controlled the tempo of the game. this kid is the glue. i dont care what anyone says. he does all the little things that a lot of people will never recognize.

twig. limited role again tonite. people got on him big time there at the end of the half. honestly i cant blame the kid, he made the guy double clutch and reverse for his layup. he wasnt the two gaurds who got beat out on the floor...

cook. 1 of 6 from the floor. but i thought he played some good defense.

lighty. played some good solid ball for us tonight. his ability to defend versatile players like he did today will be an asset sooner rather than later.

peters/titus. congrats kids. you go through the meat grinder and need some recognition.

the game.

rebounding, rebounding, rebounding. out rebounded today. 38 to 29 and gave up 13 off boards for wisc. not good.

zone, its awful hard to rebound out of a zone. we saw that today. also us playing zone slowed the game way down...

butch, im sure they said, but id guess broken elbow? tough way to end it kid, but youre a helluva player and fast healing.

the other kid who hit the floor? whats his status?

six days till a trip to ann arbor...
