Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

ESPN - Buckeyes' Wells now doubtful for Saturday's game at USC - College Football

Rest up Beanie, we'll need you against Penn St., Wisci, as much of the schedule as you can handle. A Big Ten title and a Rose Bowl are still in sight!
:osu:
And a NC is not? For real??? I'm sorry, but if you want to talk like the USC game is already over, then go post in the Troy thread. I'm sick and tired of everyone acting like the sky already fell. Championship teams find ways to win when things like this happen. The Ohio State Buckeyess are not ONE player...they never have been. The Buckeyes WILL beat USC.

People talking about The Buckeyes having to play a "perfect game" to win means to me that it is unlikely that they will win. Tressel himself said it a few days ago. I wonder if it is true though. They cannot make very many mistakes, that is for sure. The types of mistakes is important too. But perfection as needed to win, you are setting yourself up for disappointment, so far as I can tell.

Ok. I'm back. You guys are going to be sooo fucking surprised saturday night...I've said too much already. GO BUCKS!
I'm going to be surprised??? Dammit. I guess that means we lose.

I won't be shocked if we win. But it will be funny how instead of saying, "I told you so," to the USC posters and fans, I'll be saying it to Ohio State posters and fans. It shouldn't be like that.

Exactly, there is a lot more to this team than WElls. Beanie is extremely talented and it will be tough to beat USC without him, but it is certainly possible. Basically everyone is now picking an USC win in blowout fashion and I'm not sure what the betting line is.

It almost feels like this game has shifted from a very pressurized game for OSU, to a 'no one thinks you can do it, and this will be a laugher' game. so it goes from being very pressured to show up to almost like a almost nothing to lose game.

Whether or not Wells plays, OSU still has a lot of talent and great coaches.

Every year a team has one or two "breakout" players who step up and become difference makers. If Beanie can't go, let's hope one of our RB's, and perhaps even TP, when he's behind Center, can become the breakout player we will need against SC.

This game was over before it started no f-ing way USC scores more than 10 points.... 4 new linemen and a standard package forget about it... they might have to use more than one qb in this game... im not kidding. Everyone is freaking out based on their performance against Virgina give me a break.... tOSU 24 USC 10.... anyone notice the two deep on our d-fense

This is a USC team that lost to Stanford last year at home and also lost to Oregon @ Eugene.

They also eked out wins against teams like Washington, Arizona, and Cal. That Arizona team lost to New Mexico for crying out loud. USC drubbed them 20-13. Not exactly a stellar performance against a quality opponent.

USC beat the piss out of a very poor Virginia team who may lose to UCONN and Duke in the next two weeks.

I would argue that this year's Trojan team, at least offensively, is not as good as that team last year. Sanchez is making his 5th start at QB and they have 4 new O linemen and only return 4 offensive starters total from last season.

7 starters return on the Trojan D and I think that D is going to be a good one, but not unbeatable.

The Buckeye D is going to throw some looks at Sanchez that he hasn't seen before and I have to believe that the number two priority (after stopping the run of course) is to put a 60 minutes of hell D on Sanchez. Pressure from everywhere. This game will be decided on the performance of the Buckeye D.

On O I think that the O line has heard that they suck all week and it's time to Buckeye up and see what they're made of. There needs to be a surge off the line to open running lanes. Boekman doesn't need all day to throw, but he needs time to make his reads. Todd has to manage the game. I don't think it's on him to win it by any stretch, but he has to not make mistakes with the football. I think that Boom Herron should get 90% of the carries and Saine should get the other 10%. This game is not a time to get Mo Wells his senior carries. I hate to say that because you have to love the kid for gutting it out.

I'm not ready to concede defeat to the mighty Trojans. Again, they looked very average at times last year and I don't think this year's team is better than (or even as good as) last year's team. Yet there they were being annointed the best at the end of last season, just like they are at the end of every other season. It's the same this year only it started 11 weeks earlier than usual. They are nothing but hype right now. We'll see what they're made of on Saturday night.

Coach Tressel will have the team ready and I think the senior leadership on the team will shine through in this game.

Ohio State 24

USC 17
