Game Thread Ohio State 27, Iowa 24 (final, OT, 11/14/09) - Rose Bowl bound!!!

In regards to stopping big plays, the longest play OSU allowed this year was the 85 yard pass against Navy. The 2nd longest has been 33 yards, a catch by Nick Toon for Wisconsin that I believe was a catch and run. 3rd was a 31 yarder by Graham Zug that was definitely a catch and run. No one has had much success throwing downfield against OSU and I don't expect that to change this week. No other plays all season (passing or running) in excess of 30 yards against this defense.

Get your head out of the milk bowl. We are going to blow Iowa away with our new found offensive prowess. I was impressed enough last saturday to believe.
Most teams have been able to score on the hawks even though they managed to pull out games at the last second.
And now they have a frosh starting and we wll beat them like a tied up goat.
Baaaaaaaa

I certainly hope you are right. I just haven't seen the consistency in taking care of the ball and moving the ball to predict a blowout. I expect the OSU defense to shut down Iowa's offense, I just hope that the offense doesn't put the defense in poor position through turnovers.

Thank you, I absolutely agree. A freshman QB who looked horrid against NW playing against the #6 D in the country. An offense that seems to be clicking about the same it did in late '05. I like our chances of a huge blow-out and a Rose Bowl birth (and victory).

I just don't see that comparison to the '05 offense (yet). Perhaps I'm remembering the 2nd half of that season too fondly, but I can't imagine that crew getting shutout in the first quarter against NMSU or only being up 7-0 on Minnesota at the half.....They are playing much better than they were a month ago, but I don't see this team dropping 617 yards on a BCS team.

Here's hoping they come out and make me look the fool.

I think Iowa's defense could keep them in the game. This game could come down to a few plays. We just can't give them any easy points.

I see it going down much like the Penn State game. Our D will create a lot of 3 and outs and put our Offense in great field position throughout most of the game. I see a TD or two and a few FG's by the good guys due to the great field position. I can't see Iowa scoring more than 10 pts. as they are just too banged up in key positions on Offense to move the ball against our D.

We were only 60 yards short of that against NMSU, and that was with Bauserman playing the entire second half...

Iowa's defense held Wisconsin (10), Arizona (17), Iowa State (3), and Michigan State (13) to their lowest point totals all year. Also held Penn State to 10 points, which was their lowest until the Buckeyes kicked their butt.

I'm not saying that Iowa is going to win by any means. But what I am saying is that this defense is good...and has played VERY good in big games, because I'd consider these 5 games Iowa's biggest 5 of the year. This Iowa defense steps up for big games. I expect them to step up big for the game Saturday too. I also expect the Buckeyes to step up big as well. I can't see Iowa scoring unless our offense turns the ball over. But I still think this game will be close in the 4th quarter. I wouldn't be surprised if the halftime score was something like 7-3 Buckeyes. Maybe even a 10-3 score entering the 4th quarter. It just depends if Iowa shows up for this big game like they have the others.

If you are lucky enough to be headed to the game Saturday, we are going to need your voice and noise for all four quarters. This could turn into a defensive battle very easily. And I wouldn't mind it if it did, because it'd be a whole hell of a lot of fun! I just want us to win. I could care less by how much.

They also gave up the following:

Northern Iowa - 16
Arkansas State - 21
Michigan - 28
Indiana - 24

I would say that the Iowa defense is more Jekyll and Hyde than anything. You never know what you're going to get.

Like I said...they show up in big games. Ark State? N Iowa? Hardly big games? Indiana? Wow. Michigan is the only one, but then again...Michigan sucks. Also, those point totals aren't THAT big. But it seems like the bigger the game, the better their defense plays.
