'85 was also the last time that Iowa was on the cover of SI IIRC.

...

most spookiness

...

Iowa has been off the schedule for 2 years.

The last time we played them, we had a road game against a ranked team the week before. We won that road game (Texas) 24-7. Then we trucked Iowa.

You see where I'm going with this... We won a road game last week by that same 24-7 score: so obviously Iowa is about to get trucked. It's not like they're independent events or anything. There is spookiness at work that must be respected.

spookiness rocks
That's not true...Iowa wasn't our first Big Ten game that year...Penn State was. We played Iowa after we played Penn State. And we beat Penn State 28-6 that year at home.

The game after the 24-7 win against Texas was Cincinnati at home.

You think if you were a fan of Iowa football for the past 50 years, you'd really really hate Ohio State. We really have stopped a lot of their great season. Good for them though that Penn State joined the league, so they can bully somebody else. Thank you Penn State, for being Iowa's punching bag.

On a side note...i've seen some bowl projections that have Ohio State winning this game, but Iowa still going to the Fiesta Bowl. Could a 2 loss Iowa team make the BCS??? If not, who would get the at-large bids over them?

Well having a subpar ACC,Pac 10 and Big East(saying Cincy loses) would help. It will be hard for them to get in though. Florida Alabama and Texas are shoe in's even with one loss, cincy or Pitt is a shoe in, the ACC winner is in, Then TCU or Boise. That's 6... add the rose matchup and that's 8 of 10 teams. then they would pick between the other non bcs school and 2-3 2 loss teams. USC could win out not reach the rose and get in easily. so that would leave one team.

AS the doctor said when Charlie Weis was born........."This one could get ugly".

I don't see how Iowa would stay ranked high enough for an at-large BCS bid, especially if the score of Sat's game is lopsided like it very well could be.
I think Iowa's defense could keep them in the game. This game could come down to a few plays. We just can't give them any easy points.

They'd have to get back into the top-14 over the final couple of weeks. since a loss on Saturday would drop them below that. But they travel very well. Their competition for the last 2 spots (6 champs, TCU-or-Boise, and Fla/Bama loser are almost certain to get bids) would be:

USC - if they have 2 losses and don't get the Rose Bowl
Miami - if they have 2 losses
GaTech - if they lose the ACC Champ game
Boise St - if they're undefeated but TCU gets the BCS-non-AQ-automatic
Penn St - but they can say they beat them
Wiscy - but they can say they beat them
Cincy - if their only loss is to Big East-champ Pitt
Okla St - if they have 2 losses

Agreed. I expect both offenses to struggle to move the ball. Whoever can avoid committing turnovers and giving up big plays on offense should win the game. Both teams seem to share the philosophy of controlling the ball, running effectively, hitting on big plays in the passing game, and having great special teams.

I expect OSU to do a much better job of keeping McNutt and Johnson-Koulianos from getting behind the defense than some other teams (Indiana :shake:) have done. Make Vandenburg win the game by moving the ball through the air. If he can do it, bravo to them.

Get your head out of the milk bowl. We are going to blow Iowa away with our new found offensive prowess. I was impressed enough last saturday to believe.
Most teams have been able to score on the hawks even though they managed to pull out games at the last second.
And now they have a frosh starting and we wll beat them like a tied up goat.
Baaaaaaaa

Thank you, I absolutely agree. A freshman QB who looked horrid against NW playing against the #6 D in the country. An offense that seems to be clicking about the same it did in late '05. I like our chances of a huge blow-out and a Rose Bowl birth (and victory).
