Game Thread Ohio State 23, Purdue 7 (final)

It certainly appeared to my untrained eye that Locker was more timid and jumpy in the second half. I'm not knocking his toughness, but he was much less affective and decisive. Something tells me a few hard hits on a young QB can do that. I'm not so sure that will have the same effect on Painter.

Gotcha'. I think very few QB's could keep there composure after taking a beating like that, regardless of age.

Thing to me is that the lack of a run threat from the QB allows you to run stunts/blitzes that can bring pressure right up the middle a lot moreso than you can with a dangerous run threat back there.

I may be wrong but I haven't wavered in my confidence on this one. I think we take care of them pretty soundly.

I'm getting a little worried about the game, despite the fact that nothing has changed my perception about either team's offense and defense. Here's why:

Everyone on CBS Sportsline picked us. Even Dennis Dodd. That's a little scary.
Everyone on ESPiN has picked us. Mark May, Lou Holtz, and it's looking like Corso likes us too. Those three picking you is typically the kiss of death. Herbie, of course, sounds a little down on the Buckeyes, but that's to be expected.
Even the scrubs on the BTN picked us, and Jerry Dinardo made a bevy of dumb picks this weekend, from what I recall.

Usually this cast of characters picks the Buckeyes to be upset and almost always the Bucks prove them decisiviely wrong. I still think we'll win and pretty handily, but I'll admit that with this group of idiots picking us to win, I'm a little concerned. :wink2:

Those are reasons to be concerned. Holtz, Corso and Dinardo scare me the most. If Beano joins in we may well be screwed.

Ten questions about tOSU vs Purdue on BN (free)
Link

Welcome to one of our usual game day features, Ten Pressing Questions.

Today, we will examine the Ten Pressing Questions surrounding Ohio State?s titanic showdown Saturday at Purdue (8 p.m. Eastern time, ABC).

We will answer the Ten Pressing Questions in our Sunday Morning Quarterback column. Here we go:

* 1. How will Todd Boeckman play at quarterback? ? What a difference three weeks makes? Prior to the Washington game, The Sporting News boldly declared ?It?s about the quarterbacks and take Locker over Boeckman.?

Now, with Todd Boeckman 11th nationally in passing efficiency, TSN has changed its tune. The sports weekly picks OSU to win 24-20 (egads) and says, ?The Buckeyes? Todd Boeckman is the nation?s most underrated quarterback ??

Boeckman has certainly scored points with his heady play from the second half of the Washington game on. He has been spot on, for the most part, since that second-half rally at UW. We will see, however, if he is up to the test in this charged road environment and in a critical conference game.

TB's play is still my #1 area of concern for this team, followed closely by Beanies health.

I know Todd's stats are nice right now but he's had some real bad throws that just weren't taken advantage of by some lower level D's. The good news is if you look at it, we don't really play any scary good defensive teams.

THe sporting news thinks this game is a Fluffernutter.:yow1:

Ohio State at Purdue: Fluffernutter
Oh, it looks like a real sandwich, and for the first few bites it almost seems like it. Ohio State quickly will dispel this myth by battering 5-0 Purdue, which has gotten fat on sweet, fluffy competition like Notre Dame, Eastern Michigan and Minnesota. Like a fluffernutter, this game should be good for the first few bites and then leave you craving meatier substance, especially when Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells gets moving and begins to put the chokehold on a Purdue run defense that showed weakness against -- heavens! -- Notre Dame. The pick: Ohio State.

Just for the hell of it:
Google produced this, which I have never heard of. Dang I might be getting middle aged old.
"Fluffernutter: Sandwich of Fluff and peanut butter, often seen in kids' lunchboxes ..."
Is that fluff as in certain descriptions of the fairer sex ? .........

Strength vs Strength

toledoblade.com -- Buckeyes wary of Purdue veterans

We all have heard how good the Purdue O is and know how prolific they have been, but we should also recognize that offense was against Toledo, Minnesota, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and ND.

Jaxbuck said:

Toledo, EMU, CMU, Minny and ND does not get a team ready to play OSU.

Based on the strength of both teams schedules of far, tOSU's D comes out on top. All their opponents scored in double digits. Even Notre dame scored 19 against them. My take is this, tOSU Defense remains consistent for us and holds them to a 1 TD and maybe a FG. Our offense will roll in the second half after pounding their D in the first half with our RBs. I don't like to predict scores, but I can't see this one having the same look as any of the other Purdue high scoring games previously played.

Buckeyes defense > Boilers offense
Buckeyes offense > Boilers defense

We win this one soundly
