Game Thread Ohio State 23, Purdue 7 (final)

In my most humble opinion I'd say this game favors the Bucks tremendously due to having to dig deep and play with passion in the second half at Washington. Purdue simply hasn't been put in that position to this point in the season. They will come out firing; however, Ohio State's philosophy of punching people in the proverbial throat early in games is going to make all the difference in swinging the momentum away from Purdue. I love the extra emphasis on hitting the stuffing out of people on D and special teams this year.

:oh:

Dryden posted this about how JT said the staff isn't even looking at second-half film of Purdue. Purdue isn't primed to play a complete, intense second-half like we are.

Robert Smith just said that Ohio State hasn't been "as good as everybody thought they were going to be" so far this season.

What do they feed our ex-Buckeyes at ESPN?

I think they tell them that they need to stir up some arguments. The show(s) wouldn't be remotely interesting if it was just a couple of guys saying, "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah-yeah-yeah!" They probably tell Smith that he has to say that. And if he's the one taking Ohio State's side every time, and the other guy attacks Ohio State every time, he'll look like the guy who's just defending his old team, and the other guy will look like the retard.

Barry Says the Buckeyes are still slow.

Link Toledo Blade

Barry Switzer may be done with coaching, but he's busier than ever.

The former coach of the Super Bowl XXX champion Dallas Cowboys and the three-time national champion Oklahoma Sooners is now a college football analyst for XM Radio and appears on the FOX NFL Sunday pregame show.

Although he hasn't coached at Oklahoma since 1988, Switzer hasn't forgotten how to shell out his opinions on college football topics, including Michigan's season-opening loss to Appalachian State and a possible return to the BCS title game for Ohio State.

In regard to the Buckeyes, Switzer believes coach Jim Tressel has yet to address the gaping difference in team speed they had with Florida last season.

"It's a slugfest up there with those guys," Switzer said in a teleconference yesterday.

Switzer said. "I think it was something the Big Ten didn't fear. Michigan players haven't had to play against an empty backfield with five wide receivers. They played man coverage and thought they could get it done."

Huh? It just shows he doesn't know what he's talking about.
He has no clue.

I think this game will show us just how good this defense really is. No offense to our first 5 opponents, but Purdue's offense is for real. The best we faced so far is Washington, which is led by a freshman QB who is easily rattled.

Bottom line is if the Bucks shut this offense down, I'll start getting excited about the possibilities of this D. I still think Purdue ends up moving the ball and putting up points. I see a 10 point win with Purdue scoring in the upper teens or lower 20's.

I certainly didn't get that impression. He looked like a tough SOB.

As for Switzer, does anyone really even respect him after how dirty he ran his Oklahoma program? He doesn't have an ounce of JT's class and doesn't deserve an ounce of respect. Plus, he wants to talk about speed? Did OU not just lose to USC 55-19 in the NC game a few years ago? Did they also not just lose to Boise-Fucking-State last year? Give me a break. :roll2:

All's I'm saying is if Washington/Purdue were to square off I'd take Washington to win. I think Washington is the more complete team. Sure Purdue has the better weapons on offense, but that defense woah! I'm not so sure that Purdue is any better on defense than Minnesota is?

Also I don't mean to bring this into the wrong threat but I absolutly can't stand Robert Smith right now. He has given ZERO credit to the buckeyes. I respect herbie and the rest of our alumni in the business, but Robert Smith should not be on national TV. I never got to see robert play at OSU, but my gosh I would've never thought of him as a buckeye if I didn't know any better. I've found his remarks about our team to be very mis-judged and I hope we continue to win so I can hear how "we're still not that good". Making remarks such as "you know its a down year when OSU is in the top 5" is something you don't come out and say if you're a buckeye. Because A) thats far from the truth and I believe we are an elite team and B) OSU has always been there in the end the past 7-8 years. Glad you're a buckeye Robert but I can't stand you as a broadcaster

I'm at a complete loss in regards to what the hell that's supposed to mean, unless he only watched the first six quarters of the season. Preseason middle-of-the-pack Top-25 ranking, picked to finish 3rd in the conference ...

Now, I know Smith has repeatedly said that the defense wasn't as good as everyone had hyped them out to be last year, and on that, I guess I'd agree with him given the way Michigan and Florida both moved the ball, but I have no idea what he's talking about this year.

Is OSU the fourth best team in the country right now? Probably not. But it's not like anybody is talking about the Buckeyes either. Most analysts expected OSU to start 8-0.

Doesn't matter to me how good the Purdue offense is. The questions are, how good is Purdue's offense against the Buckeye defense and how good is the Buckeye offense against Purdue's defense.

Purdue's pass defense is ranked below #90 and their rushing defense is ranked below #50, which is pretty sad given who they have played. Purdue has not overwhelmed teams running the ball and our pass defense is ranked #6.

Now, those statistics may well be compromised by them having played second and third string players, but then so are ours.

I will be very surprised if we don't win by at least 10 points. I would not be surprised by 35-14 or even a wider margin.
