Game Thread Ohio 14, Ohio State 26 (Sept. 6)

I didn't like the way our receivers played at all.

On another down note, this game may have been a lot different if Ohio's receivers didn't drop all their balls, also. It seems to me that once Boo ran out of the pocket he missed some passes that our future opponents likely will complete.

I would agree that Robo and Hartline had lackluster performances, but I think Ray Small did a good job today and was one of the few sparks we saw on Offense. He didn't catch anything deep, but he did catch a handful of passes, and helped move the chains a few times.

Yes they feel they have a favorable matchup with Robo going up, but some of those throws seemed late. And I think we are harping less about the Brians getting separation if they make a couple catches today that they are used to making.
I can agree with that. It's just incredibly frustrating that this has been recurring since the Purdue game last year.

Any team is going to have ups and downs in performance during the season...any team (see New England, 2007-8). While we all saw things that were concerning today, this team isn't going to play this badly every game, it's impossible.

Yes, this game worried me, but I don't think its appropriate to get too down on this team (or to get toooo up on them after a great performance). When one has such high expectations going into a season, it's hard to keep perspective after the worse performances, but you'll be happy you did when we bounce back with a better performance next week.

Next week is going to be incredibly ugly, count on it. Uninspired play was only half the problem going on today, the rest is actual issues with blocking, blown coverage, no separation from the receivers. I've been holding my tongue all week, but can't do it any longer. USC by 3 TDs, just deal with it and move on - I'd still like to see them in a Rose Bowl.

 Don't be skerred.

Next week is a new week

Fellow Buckeye fans,

Keep it in perspective, this is a very good all around team that had an off day but still got it done. Perhaps they looked ahead or just played down to the competition. Do not fall victim cognitive bias of the recency effect.

The recency effect, in psychology, is a cognitive bias that results from disproportionate salience of recent stimuli or observations. People tend to recall items that were at the end on a list rather than items that were in the middle on a list. For example, if a driver sees an equal total number of red cars as blue cars during a long journey, but there happens to be a glut of red cars at the end of the journey, he or she is likely to conclude that there were more red cars than blue cars throughout the drive.

Go Buckeyes!

Wife just pointed out to me that I should confess that the poor first half performance was my fault. I took this one for granted and stayed in my PJs until after kickoff, and also loafed around the house and got out of the lucky seat a few times.

I had to go down to the basement and dig out last week's shorts and t-shirt from the clothes hamper that I wore for the YSU game.

Got my clothes changed just in time!

Well the old adage that you get your biggest improvment from game 1 to game 2 was disproved. So as not to be accused of bashing lets say our OL and DT have issues. Our defense needs to be more disciplined against the spread..rushing lanes..staying with receivers until the play is done etc. Our crowd again was as uninspiring as some of the play. 105,000 fans should be loud enoughto cause problems at least on third down. Are we as fans that spoiled..were not entitled to anything it must be earned. Ahh that feels better sorry for the rant . :oh:

Next week's a new week. After that we'll have a true perspective on this team's character.

As for FredOU, they played their hearts out, and would have won had they not turned the ball over 5 times. One day one of them will thread the needle--play the perfect game on a day when Ohio State can't do anything right, catch a rebuilding team with their "team of the decade."

It'll happen, but the important thing is that it didn't happen today--not today, not this year and not to this team.

Should be a great game next week. I'm nervous but still looking forward to it.

I thought the turnovers were awesome by our D. But the O needs to do something more with those opportunties. Can't believe we forced 5 turnovers by Ohio and only won by 12. Wow.

As for TB, I thought his passes in general looked much sharper. A lot more zip on them. It should be clear to everyone that he has to play well if we are to win next week. But it still seemed that he was forcing sometimes. It appeared that he had outlets open often but was still locked onto his primary target. What did you guys think? The chemistry between TB and his WRs seemed a little off too??

Yeah, its kind of sad to see our QB and #1 Receiver not have chemistry because that is what we have been used to over the years:

Hoying - Glenn
Germaine - Boston
Krenzel - Jenkins
Smith - Holmes

Hopefully they will watch the film and see that everyone was on a different page.
