OH RB Todd Sibley (Pitt Signee)

Wow. I trust that the staff knows what they're doing, but this feels like a dangerous road to travel down with an in-state kid.
Maybe. But if OSU can get Harris or Akers, it won't matter that much. Especially if OSU continues to win at the rate they currently are. Everyone knew that 2017 was going to be an interesting class as they are so few open scholarships. I'm sure that recruits, parents and coaches all knew this if fans on message boards did. Like has been said a bunch of times, any other year a number of in state kids would be offered and/or pursued stronger. 2017 the staff will be extremely picky, especially since so many high ranked kids have OSU very high on their lists. If Sibley can't be in this OSU class but can still get a full ride to pursue his gridiron dream somewhere else, more power to him. And if OSU can get either Akers or Harris its a win win for both parties. Like Meyer told Clark, "its a business"

Based on the recent history I don't think this was a surprise to those inside the situation and they gave it some time before coming out with it.

While it does suck if you are on the staff with Hoban but I don't think they'll be as bitter about this as some might due to the timing of it....plenty of time, before the summer circuit, this gives Sibley and his family plenty of time to think it over and do what's best.....whether that is being a GS or if it is, as I'd guess, heading elsewhere. The reality is these things happen but it's how you deal with it that gives you credit as a staff or a bad name and the way it appears this has been handled I think it is definitely to their credit. They could have stopped contact, waited to see how the Akers recruitment went, etc. but THAT would have ruined the relationship locally.

I think what NorthCoastKid meant was, it might ruin the relationships the staff had with the high schools and their coaches.
I know what he meant. And I disagree fully! Like @buchtelgrad04 stated, this won't stop a kid who grew up wanting to go to OSU. I can bet that Ohio HS coaches knew the schollie restrictions OSU has this year. Urban is going after the best of the best regardless of residence. And I can sure bet no fan will be complaining if Harris or Akers want to be Buckeyes over Sibley. And the staff if doing right by Sibley in being up front with him in April as opposed to leading him a long or stopping contact. This is recruiting, things like this happen. It is what it is. Its a business! Let's not get emotional(anyone, not directed at @ant80 or @NorthCoastKid ). When another NC is hoisted, no one will remember any of this

This is a very fan-ish point of view.

You're saying it shouldn't matter to a 4* running back that the school he comitted to is asking him to wait a year before he enrolls because they have somebody better they want? For me.....a fan.....yeah, I'm going to Ohio State no matter what. I can say that knowing I don't have one hundredth of the talent this kid does. But a 4* recruit hopefully doesn't look at it like a fan does.

Yup. Sibley is obviously good enough to earn a free ride to play football at a number of schools. Why would he pay out of pocket for a semester or two at Ohio State when he could be practicing/playing and getting a free education elsewhere?

You both misunderstood what I'm saying, as I no where said that he'd be fine as a GS. I do expect him to go elsewhere if this is indeed what option the staff has offered him. He certainly is good enough to start or get decent PT at many schools. I'm simply stating that this won't hurt OSU's relationship with Ohio HSs as they are actually being up front with Sibley. This is not a "fan POV", as I don't see him being fine with paying his own way. Nor did I state as such

Actually, you DID say:

this won't stop a kid who grew up wanting to go to OSU
