'Official' I Hate Kanye West Thread

Rage Agaianst the Machine is not even close to rap. I mean, it is closer than Tom Petty, but is still not rap, hip-hop, whatever.

I'm going to assume you don't really feel 'Rage' is rap, and just said that or effect as well......

How is this not clear? Zach raps. Its what he does. Its how he rolls. The band is by no means "rap". And the band is great. Do you feel that Zach's vocals would be classified as singing?

Zach doesn't "rap" in your run of the mill way. He sings, he raps, he screams. He's about as much of a rapper as you would consider Lincoln Park.

On top of that, Rage Against the Machine, was a heavy, hard-core rock band behind him. That is not rap music.

I'm not sure I even consider "The Roots" rap music....Blackthought raps, way more-so than Zach de la Roca, but it is a live "jazz" type band behind him.

To becompletely honest with you, you culd consider the original "Walk This Way" by Aerosmith rap music if you want than. Steven Tyler is essentilly rapping on that song. Run DMC simply changed the words, and added an extra back-beat. So was the original song "Rap" or "rock". I would certainly put the Aerosmith version in the "rock" category just like I would Rage Against the Machine.

Right I didnt say Rage was rap. said Zach raps. Regardless that wasnt really the point of the matter. Was just sayin that I love the band, hate the vocalist. Another one you pointed out, Linkin Park. Decent band, if they would get rid of that rappy guy. He sucks my nuts

In my book, it isnt music. Doesnt mean it isnt in your book........I dont see any talent at all in rappers. It isnt hard to make words rhyme. Again, I am not tryin to start a war, just sayin how I personally view it.

so Zach de la Roca is a "no talented hack" in your opinion and a non-musician??....and truthfully, I wouldn't label him a rapper.

No love for any lyricists that can lay their vocals over a beat in a rhythmic way??

Will you stop putting words in my mouth already. didnt say he was a non-musician or a no-talent hack. I said I dont like his vocals, nothing more. And no I guess I dont have love for whatever you said.......they all sound the same to me, and they dont sing enough for my taste. Just personal preference.

that is offensive to me. To me that is saying abstract art isn't real art. Abstract art isn't real art because it sucks and isn't always real objetcs.

In no way, shape, or form were the Beatles overrated you deaf hack :)

I love the Beatles.

 I'm most definitely tone deaf. I'll give you that. But yeah, in my honest opinion, the Beatles are the most overrated musicians in history. If not for television, I don't think they would've caught on like they did. Not saying they suck by any means. Don't get me wrong, they were good. But when people start claiming they are bigger than Jesus, they've lost touch with reality. If chicks had thought they were ugly, they don't become half as famous as they did. Just my opinion.

But I love Hip-Hop too. It's raw, intelligent, and a musical representation of urban influences.

Some of it. Some, like any genre of course, is nothing more than half-way talented douchebags riding coat tails of far more talented folks to make money. No one will ever convince me that DMX (especially after his first album) or half the artists that were on the No Limit label, especially toward the end of their run, were anything but a product trying to cash in. Fucking waste of CD's in my opinion.

Rap is my favorite genre of music, btw.

I also get tired of people singing the praises of people like Talib and Common. I get that they talk about "serious" issues and such...that doesn't make them good. I can't fucking stand most of what Talib does. Just annoys the shit out of me. I do like Mos Def and some of Common's stuff however.

Tree hugger :P

I dont see how its offensive to express one's opinion. I didnt call your mother a whore. I said I think rap/hip hop/whatever sucks........to me. I also hate Notre Dame. Matter of opinion.

I completely agree.....but it is no different than the red Hot Chilli Peppers stealing "Last Dance With Mary Jane" and making it "Californication". It's funny to me, because rock bands steal guitar riffs on a regular basis or a drum beat, but hip-hop/rap is ridicululed for flat out stealing samples. I can name 3 songs right now that use "The Mccoys" "Hang On Sloopy" drum beat and guitar riff. Rock music steals all the time, but because they change the note or slightly divert it, nobody says anything. I haven't heard a popular rock song in the last 10 yeras that hasn't reminded me of something.

And I enjoy Talib Kweli and Mos Def but agree with what you are saying. They aren't my favorites, but I appreciate they are going the other way in a genre that is dominated by fake gangsters. Lupe Fiasco is probably the best out right now, IMO....and he's considering, retiring from music b/c he hates the pressure from music producers/executives.

Im going to give Kanye a pass, he hasnt been in his right mind since his mama passed, and its becoming more and more obvious that he needs professional help... 808 & Heartbreak is a cry for help.

Buckyle, Why don't you like Talib? Oh and to your point about the Chronic? Before The Chronic was a thought in Dre's head there was another little album called "Raising Hell" THAT is the album that brought hip hop [NOT Rap, there is a difference] to the mainstream.

Im just an old school hip hop head. While I enjoy SOME of the newer stuff, it lacks the lyrical skill and overall passion that it had back in the day. Kids did hip hop for the love of it, not the money, But I have to say I am loving Lupe Fiasco right now, and Q-tips new album is pure genuis to me.

Guys! Guys! Guys!

The point of this thread is to make fun of this douche...

...not debate rap's musical merit. It is music by the way. Polka on the other hand, most definately is not.

Eminem (see The Slim Shady LP) and Mac Dre are/were the most talented lyricists out there.

depends on what you like...Eminem is/was pretty slick, but Dre has always been a bit weak in the lyricist department. Can make a helluva beat though. To be honest, Eminem's lyricist skills lose effect on me as I get older. Just seems a bit over the top and non-relevant. I can't pick my mom up at the airport airport with Eminem playing in my car. I can with Mos Def, Lupe, or The Roots.

I just don't like him. Pretentious is the word maybe. Not sure. I don't like his voice either. I do like Mos Def A LOT. I like a few of Common's songs, but he annoys me to an extent.

I didn't claim The Chronic brought hip hop to the mainstream, that was general.

But honestly, I think Beastie Boys "Lisence to Ill" brought hip hop to the mainstream moreso than Raising Hell. That is, if you consider "the mainstream" to be suburban white kids. The urban black population knew about hip hop even before raisin hell. Run DMC even says the Beastie Boys are more responsible.

I love Biz Markie also. He's another of my "early" favorites.

By the way, billmac..I get what you're saying about Eminem...but if you're judging hip hop/rap...or rock and roll for that matter...on being able to listen to it while picking your mom up from the airport...you're doing it wrong.
