'Official' I Hate Kanye West Thread

General, great point. I'd put Kanye in the same category as RZA. Dr. Dre and Timbaland as well.

Dre, definitely. The Chronic totally catapulted rap in to the mainstream, and it was his advancements in production that made it happen. Timba I haven't heard much of. Kanye I haven't been too impressed with. IMO, rap in general has regressed a bit from a few years ago. There just doesn't seem to be as much creativity as there was from guys like Jungle Bros., Tribe, Wu-Tang, etc. These days it seems to be more aimed at making club hits. There are still guys like Common and Talib Kweli who are doing quality stuff, but they don't get as much pub.

 If it isn't hard to "make words rhyme", everyone would be doing it and making millions in the process.

So, you're saying that the Beatles were geniuses? :p

I like most of his music, its not typical compared to some of the shit you hear, his new stuff sucks though. Nothing like his previous works.

That said, when did hip-hop have to be such a damn fashion statement?
I don't remember '2pac showing up to any fashion shows... when was the last time you saw Dr Dre concerned about his runway appearance?

- thats about all i got.

+1 BTW... I liked ' The Who' a ton more.

Okay, so we've established the fact that rap is, in fact, music.

Racist. :p

 Well, to be fair, not many "Gangsta Rappers" ever have been too concerned with fashion.

However, Run DMC was almost as famous for Adidas with no laces as they were for their music. Hip hop artists have heavily influenced a lot of popular culture, from slang to fashion, and everything in between.

Kanye had a lot to do with Jay Z's success, as far as I know, and I think Jay Z is one of the best ever, but of course, it's all subjective.

I haven't checked out much Kanye or Jay-Z. I remember thinking Kanye's early stuff sounded interesting, but after Gold Digger, I lost interest.

 I don't think the Beatles sucked, just overrated.

Just fucking with you. After our previous conversation, I couldn't resist.

I blame Puff Daddy...or P Diddy...or whatever.

I'll give you that, but to have the rest fall in line - why can't Kanye just be about his music?

Common, Lupe, Mos Def, Wyclef, etc etc... all musicians I listen to regularly because I love their work. They have their own styles, but don't exhibit any particular influence and/or desire to perpetuate the fashion industry. They fall under R&B/ Hip-Hop just like Kanye.

Kanye is different in the fact that he tries to do just that, and honestly... its really the only thing I can't stand about him.

Sometimes his shit looks decent, others - not so much.

Never liked his shit, aside from maybe 2 songs... which still weren't even that great. He's a producer/fashion/stylist/band director before a serious rap artist.

In my book, it isnt music. Doesnt mean it isnt in your book........I dont see any talent at all in rappers. It isnt hard to make words rhyme. Again, I am not tryin to start a war, just sayin how I personally view it.

I can understand not liking it, but to say it isn't music is just absurd. In what way is it not music??

You're still putting together drums and sounds to make "organized noise". While many hip-hop producers "sample" old beats, many create their own beats utilizing drum programs, sound kits, or use instruments.

So I'm confused at how this isn't music?

In no way, shape, or form were the Beatles overrated you deaf hack :)

I love the Beatles.

But I love Hip-Hop too. It's raw, intelligent, and a musical representation of urban influences.

I don't see Hip-Hop any differently than I see a sport like basketball that has become laregly dependent on low-income kids from the city. I think it is genious early hip-hop learned how to create beats and sounds from existing songs due to a lack of funds for instruments.

People say anyone can rap and make words rhyme, but is that really true?? What makes someone like Jay-Z successful and someone like Vanilla Ice fail misserably after one hit song?? Maybe because Jay-Z could actually rap and bring substance to a beat, and Vanilla Ice was a one-hit wonder that capitalized on a David Bowie sample.

Anyways, there is a reason Hip-Hop/Rap has been the number one category in CD sales for a majority of the last 2 decades. It's a real musical art-form and will be here forever, unlike many of the naysayers suggested over the last 20 years.

Your telling me you dont like Zach de la Rocha's vocals? ...... righty then

Hell no. AGain, it's still rap...

fair enough.

I guess I agree in a way. Van Halen sucks huge-enormous balls and is so far from "The Roots" musically it is ridiculous.

I'd rather listen to Todd McShay and Stephen A. Smith debate how much Ohio State sucks than listen to Van Halen with David Lee Roth at the helm. Just brutal shit.

Actually my explanation for that would be because people's music tastes are horrible in this country

Wow.....

Your serious? I wont lie, there's tons of hip-hop influence, but to call it "rap" is beyond absurd.

Zach's vocals......he raps. so its hip hop, rap, whatever, I just cant stand vocals like that.

Rage Agaianst the Machine is not even close to rap. I mean, it is closer than Tom Petty, but is still not rap, hip-hop, whatever.

I'm going to assume you don't really feel 'Rage' is rap, and just said that or effect as well......
