'Official' I Hate Kanye West Thread

Make no mistake, I saw that before I posted. I've never been one to not take the bait to avoid conflict, so....fuck it.

I've heard that "position" from more than a few people over time, and it was equally fucking retarded no matter who said it.

Not saying anything about B-max here, at all, but more often than not, at some point during the argument, the person claiming rap wasn't music would turn racist.

Honestly there is truth to that, but you know why? the beastie boys can play instruments. Same with Rage and others. I enjoy the music, but honestly even with those bands, I dont like the vocals.

So if DMX could play the piccolo he'd be more acceptable? I find that hard to believe. Besides, I don't think the Beastie Boys played many instruments on Lisenced to Ill. R. Kelly can play like 12 fucking instruments, and the same people I'm referring to didn't seem to care for him at all either.

You are comparing R Kelly to the beastie boys? the vocal style is the only similarity. Here is something to go against the racist thing. Kid Rock can play like a million instruments, is white, and I cant stand him either.

I respect that he can play the instruments and is a musical talent, but just dont care for his stuff. I actually dont like the beastie boys either though

Not to mention Techno, which rarely involves any of the "artists" playing their own instruments.

Music is defined as "Organized Sound".

From Wiki:

An often-cited definition of music, coined by Edgard Var?se, is that it is "organized sound" (Goldman 1961, 133). The fifteenth edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica describes that "while there are no sounds that can be described as inherently unmusical, musicians in each culture have tended to restrict the range of sounds they will admit."

Rap is music. You may not enjoy it, but that's not much of an argument against it being music.

How many of today's pop stars write their own songs, or sing live? I hear the musical aspect of rap questioned all the time, but many of the best selling pop "singers" don't have any more to do with the music than Milli Vanilli. There are rap producers who do little more than create a casio keyboard drum loop, but guys like RZA have more musical talent than most of the "real" bands out there.

In my book, it isnt music. Doesnt mean it isnt in your book........I dont see any talent at all in rappers. It isnt hard to make words rhyme. Again, I am not tryin to start a war, just sayin how I personally view it.

R Kelly's vocal style is as far away from the Beastie Boys as you can get. You said you found the Beastie Boys to be music because they play instruments, so does R Kelly.

I'm not saying YOU are racist Bmax, not at all.

You say you can't stand Kid Rock, but you aren't claiming he isn't "music".

General, great point. I'd put Kanye in the same category as RZA. Dr. Dre and Timbaland as well.

 If it isn't hard to "make words rhyme", everyone would be doing it and making millions in the process.

Oops I meant DMX, not R kelly. Typo. I honestly have no idea what R Kelly sounds like. I also think there are different definitions for Rap, R&B, etc. I dont really like any of it, but I wouldnt group it all into one big musical pot.

Is there some depth to the lyrics, etc. I am sure there is.......and that's fine and dandy. But I would rather they write poetry or something I guess

And when I am talking about Vocal Style, I just mean that none of them sing. Not critiquing it.
