Official Bengals Draft Thread

My opinion. As good as Johnson is, would the Raiders really draft a WR with nobody to get him the ball?

I think Jamaal Anderson is too high.

No way the Browns draft Russell, even if available.

I'm no Quinn fan, but I don't see him falling that far.

Reggie Nelson #5? He's good, but come on...

Brandon Meriweather is too much of a headcase to go in round 1.

When is the last time you saw 4 safeties in round 1?

I don't think that makes it any worst than any other mock. Abviously none is anywhere near perfect. In the end I apprecieate that they were willing to make different picks than everyone else so we have something to talk about.

A agree on Anderson, I doubt he is the first in this deep DE class to go. But, McShay agrees he is top 5 material (see his mock under the cardinals).

The Raiders (as well as the Lions or Browns) could beleive they can get a Smith or Stanton at the top of the second. There is no doubt Johnson is the #1 talent in this draft. I am not a Browns fan, but speculation is that Savage loves Russell since they come from the same hometown. Savage keeps a tight lip on his draft plans, so I can't see why it is not possible Russell could be a Brownie should the Raiders pass.

Quinn could fall if 2 of the top 3 are willing to wait to get their future QB's. Who is next that is likely to draft a QB, TB, Minn, Houston and Miami are not very likely and none of the others will between 3 and 14.

As for Merriweather, no doubt he is first round talent. And his flexibility to swap from S to CB (in a week CB draft) could provide for some unique coverage packages. Where he will fall is anyones guess with the off field issues.

This is a new one. Paul Poluszny to the Bengals. Have never heard of the site. It doesn't really give any reasoning behind the picks. I'd assume they assume Pollack is done and we won't return Thurman. Otherwise, I don't see us drafting a LB in the first round.

I'd like to see this thread start giving some opinions of players Bengals fans would like to see or outsiders think would improve our team. Feel free to post your opinions and players you'd like to see in tiger stripes.

I think Leon Hall is your man. He'd look great getting burned by our own scUM and then getting in a scUM-on-scUM fight.

Tyler or Pitcock would make the most sense, although the CB from Fresno St. might also be an attractive pick. Personally, I hope they snag Tyler, or Okoye if he falls.

Q-Did you hear the Bengals were forced to trade Chris Henry?

A-His probation forbids association w/ kn own felons.

The CB from Fesno St. is Marcus McCauley. While it is always good to load up on CB, I get the feeling there are no real good CB's in the draft (something about watching Hall get smoaked by any decent receiver he's faced and still be the top CB) which means all the CB are overrated. He is currently the 3rd or 4th best CB in the draft.

Pitcock seems like a reach right now. He may grade out higher after the combine, but he would seem a better fit in round 2.

I agree with your assesment of Okoye being the prize if he were to drop that far and Tyler being our fall back.

Steeler fan so I don't know the full story on Bengal needs but that Okoye kid from L'ville is obviously a player and on top of that from all accounts the type of high charachter player they need to start collecting.

Steeler fans welcome to the thread too. Draftnicks of all teams welcome. Especially revered posters like Jax.

Kipers lastest Big Board $$ Okoye has jumped from 13 to 9, which seems to be the tread coming out of the SR Bowl. I would imagine the combine will only help his value. Beginning to doubt he can slip to 18.

I think Okoye is a beast. He doesn't seem to be in the cards for the Bengals (or Browns), but I think he's going to be a beast for a long time in the NFL.

I haven't read much about any of the top players, but does anyone know if Okoye is related to Christian? I'm not sure if their names are even spelled the same.

No.

(And this is a pseudo-trivia question that even the NFL Network has screwed up).

From an early article on the Scout Cardinals site.

Q: It's been reported that you're related to former NFL standout Christian Okoye. Is that accurate?
Okoye: We're not really related. It's hard to explain it but this is the way my dad put it....back home you can lean over a fence and literally shake Christian Okoye's hand. I never got to meet him but my dad said when he was back home they were neighbors.
